"... I'm absolutely elated..."

ICT FC 2-1 Falkirk 30th May 2015
Scottish Cup Final
Caley Jags won the Scottish Cup after going down to ten men and being pulled back level by a very competent Falkirk side. Caley Jags took the lead through Marley Watkins on 38 mins. Watkins got on the ball through an Arron Doran pass. Watkins then rounded Jamie MacDonald the Falkirk keeper to slot into the vacant net. On 74 mins Carl Tremarco earned a red card after pulling down Blair Alston, who was through on goal. Falkirk scored through the head of Peter Grant on 80 mins to bring the sides level. Caley Jags got the winner on 86 mins through James Vincent. Watkins broke through the Falkirk defence only to have his shot parried by MacDonald. The ball fell to Vincent who was left with a simple tap-in.
Manager John Hughes: "... I'm absolutely elated, but we didn't half make it hard for ourselves. I don't want to sound like Sir Alex Ferguson back in his Aberdeen days but the second half just wasn't acceptable. We brought it on top of ourselves and got a man sent off. But once again, the spirit in the team with ten men, they dig it out. And to do it in a Scottish Cup final is remarkable. I'm absolutely delighted we won the game and Tremarco's blushes are spared..."

Celtic 5-0 ICT FC 24th May 2015
Caley Jags rested key players prior to next weeks cup final. Celtic took full advantage and were convincing winners finishing their season by scoring five goals with no reply. Stefan Scepovic scored after just 5 mins. Stefan Johansen followed on 18 mins. Scepovic got his second on 70 mins. Subs Leigh Griffiths and Kris Commons scored on 80 mins and 90 mins respectively.
Manager John Hughes: “... It’s been a horrible week as we’ve had to start preparing for the Cup Final while knowing we still had to come here. But I owed it to those boys to leave them out because if one of them picked up a straight red they would have missed out. That’s why we left so many of them back up the road – six or seven of them didn’t even travel with us. Now our full focus is on the Final this weekend... The seven or eight players who were left out today will go into the game at Hampden with confidence and momentum because they weren’t part of this. They’ll still be flying high. We still wanted to come here and have a go because, as far as I’m concerned, there are still four places up for grabs in my team."

"... we're a real good football side..."
|
ICT FC 3-0 Dundee United 16th May 2015
Caley Jags widened the gap between third and fourth places during their final home match of the season. Three second half goals with no reply ensured the home side gained all three points. Caley Jags took the lead, on 5 5mins, through a Josh Meekings' header. Nick Ross smashed in the second on 80 mins from 12 yards. This was followed within 3 mins when Gary Warren scored the third, heading in after a Greg Tansey corner.
Manager John Hughes: "When we're at it and we play like we did today we're a real good football side. As a team I can't ask anymore of them... We had a real different pre-season, we never did a double session, and we rested the boys and they came back fit. I've still got boys on the bench who could get themselves in that starting eleven and keep themselves in there. The emergence of Ryan Christie, I think we've got a real talent in Scottish football, he's only going to get better, he's played over thirty games."

"... a fantastic achievement..."
|
Dundee 0-1 ICT FC 9th May 2015
Caley Jags guaranteed European football this summer after clinching third place in the Premiership. Their victory at Dens Park ensured that they could no longer be caught by Dundee United or St Johnstone, the teams immediately below them. It took a single goal to gain the required three points. It came on 8 mins from an Edward Ofere header. Over the 90 mins Dundee had more possession and more shots at goal but Caley jags managed to keep a clean sheet.
Manager John Hughes: "Absolutely outstanding, first time in the history of the club that we are going to Europe so we're looking forward to it. I'm grateful and thankful that we put it to bed today so that lets us concentrate on the cup final. We've got two games to go and we owe it to every other team still to keep battling away and we'll do that as there's cup final places up for grabs, but it is a fantastic achievement for everyone concerned at the club... We are absolutely delighted not just for the supporters but for the whole city and the community of Inverness."

"... absolutely delighted..."
|
ICT FC 1-2 Dundee United 5th May 2015
Caley Jags fought back, from an early United goal, to claim a vital three points on their route to European football. United went ahead after only 8 mins when a Ryan Essan clearance fell to Robbie Muirhead who easily lobbed it home. However, two further first half goals for the home side were enough to seal the points for Caley Jags. The first came on 38 mins from Edward Ofere who tapped in from a Marley Watkins' cut-back. This was followed just before the break, on 43 mins, through a Danny Williams' volley.
Manager John Hughes: "... To lose a goal like that was really disappointing but all credit to them for coming back to win the game. I am absolutely delighted for them. Of late, we've been losing a late goal. We've got a wee habit of sitting in. The best thing is to keep the ball moving and let the other team do the running. Dundee United hemmed us in for the last fifteen minutes and I'm glad we stood up to it. I felt we got deeper and deeper but we thankfully got away with it."

"... a little bit disappointed..."
|
St Johnstone 1-1 ICT FC 2nd May 2015
It was a draw with one goal and five yellow cards apiece at McDiarmid Park. David Raven picked up two of the yellow cards so Caley Jags found themselves down to ten men on 84 mins. Both goals came in the second half. Caley Jags took the lead on 55 mins when a Raven cross was met by Aaron Doran whose shot went in off the bar. St Johnstone fought back and were rewarded on 82 mins when Brian Graham's header beat Ryan Esson.
Manager John Hughes: "We're playing in the SPL and I expect better performances from the referee than that... He was getting conned, people were falling down. And for me there was probably one yellow card in the whole game. Apart from that it was handbag stuff all over the place. I'm just a little bit disappointed to concede the goal in the last 10 minutes. I thought we might have seen the game out, kept a clean sheet. We made the substitutions to do that."

ICT FC 1-2 Aberdeen 25th April 2015
Caley Jags were unable to score in the first half despite excellent chances falling to Nick Ross and Marley Watkins. Edward Ofere put his side ahead on 48 mins. Aberdeen found themselves level on 69 mins when a Niall McGinn free-kick was deflected past Ryan Esson off the head of David Raven. McGinn clinched the points for Aberdeen on 74 mins after Jonny Hayes' corner wasn't cleared by the Caley Jags' defence.
Manager John Hughes: "... It's been a tough week but you can see today we are where we are on merit. We played some good stuff against a high-flying Aberdeen team and we've always been a match for them, but they can always just pip us to the post."

ICT FC 3-2 Celtic (aet) 19th April 2015
Scottish Cup Semi-Final
Caley Jags denied Celtic the treble for this season after taking them to extra time during their Scottish Cup Semi-Final encounter at Hampden. Virgil van Dijk put Celtic ahead on 18 mins after Gary Warren took down James Forrest just outside the penalty box. Van Dijk took a curling free-kick over the Caley Jags' wall and past Ryan Esson into the back of the net via the inside of the near post. It remained 1-0 going into the break. Caley Jags were level on 58 mins through a Greg Tansey penalty. This came after Marley Watkins was brought down by keeper Craig Gordon, who was rewarded with a red card. Replacement keeper Lukasz Zaluska was unable to stop Tansey's shot. Full time finished at 1-1. Edward Ofere put Caley Jags ahead on 96 mins. Celtic substitute John Guidetti brought the sides back level on 103 mins. The match winner came for Caley Jags on 117 mins through David Raven.
Manager John Hughes: "... That's for Dean Brill, a guy who's been absolutely outstanding for us. I'm absolutely delighted. Well done to the boys and supporters. I didn't know that was our first Scottish Cup final and it's a good story, isn't it? It's a dream. We've lost our goalkeeper, our top striker at Christmas, Billy Mckay. We had to sell him as it was good business for the club. We lost our inspirational skipper right at the start of the season. but the boys just keep digging in and they deserve to be in a cup final..."

"... we got a little bit lucky..."
|
ICT FC 1-1 Celtic 11th April 2015
The Scottish Premiership leaders, Celtic, could only pick up a single point during their latest visit to the
Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. Leigh Griffith put the visitors ahead after only 3 mins. Caley Jags responded immediately and equalised on 4 mins through Edward Ofere's close range shot. There were no more goals in the match. On 19 mins Ryan Esson replaced Dean Brill who was stretchered off due to a dislocated knee.
Manager John Hughes: "...We matched Celtic in the first half. In the second half, we sat too deep. It was all Celtic and we got a little bit lucky. We had one or two efforts at goal. In terms of effort and commitment, I cannot fault them. I'm trying to guide them and educate them. When you're under the cosh, if you keep giving the ball away against a good side like Celtic then, inevitably, the door's going to open. We need to be better on the ball..."

"... we seem to switch off..."
|
Aberdeen 1-0 ICT FC 8th April 2015
A win by Aberdeen saw them extend their lead over Caley Jags to 11 points. Half time was reached without either side scoring. Early in the second half Aberdeen went into the lead. A Barry Robson corner, on 47 mins, was turned in at the back post by the head of Ash Taylor.
Manager John Hughes: "I was disappointed in the way that we conceded. In the last three or four games, we seem to switch off. I don't know what happens at half-time... We need to pass the ball quick, we need to pass it better, we need to go and express ourselves a little bit more and our decision-making in the final third, we have to have a little bit of belief that we can make it happen instead of hoping that it happens."

"... we struggled to adjust..."
|
ICT FC 1-1 Dundee 4th April 2015
Caley Jags only managed to collect one point after pulling back level with Dundee. Despite a number of chances falling to Caley Jags in the first half neither side could pull ahead before going into the break. It was Dundee that took the lead, going against the run of play, on 53 mins from a David Clarkson strike from 15 yards. Graeme Shinnie pulled the sides back level again after only 2 mins. Neither side went on to find the net again.
Manager John Hughes: ""... Lady luck deserted us a little bit. We were looking for a bit more in our combination play with Aaron, Nick, Ryan and Marley, to make the most of our total domination in the first half. I thought the whole game was played in their half. But in the first 20-25 minutes of the second half they were on top. Their shape was better and we struggled to adjust. They scored with their first shot on target but we showed great spirit and character to go straight down the other end and score."

"... on the back foot..."
|
Partick Thistle 1-0 ICT FC 21st March 2015
Caley Jags failed to take the opportunity, during their visit to Firhill, to close the gap on Aberdeen and pull away from Dundee United. A late goal from Steven Lawless was enough to ensure the home home claimed all the points. On 84 mins a high cross was met in the box by Lyle Taylor who knocked it back to Lawless who then beat Ryan Esson, blasting in from 18 yards.
Manager John Hughes: "... We never got on it, never passed it, played it too straight, and that put us on the back foot. We kept giving the ball away, and all credit to Partick, that gave them the incentive to get on the front foot and they got their goal. I'm a little bit disappointed in the goal, we should have been round about the second ball so to see it nestle in the bottom corner was a little bit disappointing. I thought we were not too bad first half, but, second half, miles off it."

"... great for the highlands..."
|
ICT FC 1-0 Raith Rovers 10th March 2015
Scottish Cup Quarter-Final
Caley Jags progressed to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup after a home win against Raith Rovers. Despite numerous opportunities in the first half Caley Jags failed to score. The situation changed after 63 mins when the only goal of the match came. A Greg Tansey corner was met by Danny Devine at the back post, where he headed in the winner.
Manager John Hughes: "... In the first half we were very good and a little bit unlucky to come in having not scored a few goals. It's all about winning the game, we knew what the prize was - a semi-final at Hampden. In the second half we weren't quite at it but we certainly did enough to win the game. We're grateful that the goal came because this club deserves to be in a semi-final. It's great for the highlands, great for the club, and I'm delighted for the board and the chairman because they've backed us and I know the financial rewards for getting to a semi-final."

Motherwell 2-1 ICT FC 28th February 2015
Caley Jags were unable to extend this year's unbeaten run for another week. Motherwell started the more determined side. Their early efforts were rewarded on 48 mins when they were put ahead through Louis Laing finishing from a Conor Grant cross. New Caley Jaggie Edward Ofere levelled the sides on 76 mins when he headed in from a Graeme Shinnie cross. Both sides fought to gain a winning goal. It came on 84 mins when Motherwell's Lionel Ainsworth's shot deflected off Ross Draper to beat Ryan Esson. Caley Jags still sit third in the table.
Manager John Hughes: "After hitting the woodwork twice, putting a couple past the post, we certainly deserved to take something out of the match. I don't know if it's all three points but we could have took three points. We show character to come back having lost a goal. I felt we could have gone on to win the match but it wasn't to be. It's the first time we've been beaten (this year), on a heavy pitch, by a team that's fighting for their life..."

"... once again forgot to play in the second half..."
|
Dundee United 1-1 ICT FC 24th February 2015
United goalkeeper Michal Szromnik was red carded after 6 mins for taking down Marley Watkins, in the box, when he was through on goal. The resulting penalty was converted on 9 mins by Greg Tansey. Caley Jags held on to their lead until 74 mins when Ryan McGowan levelled. Gary Warren was dismissed in added time after a clash with Nadir Ciftci.
Manager John Hughes: "... Dundee United were up for it. They've come off two defeats and they were up for it, they were getting stuck in, they were very aggressive and I don't think we got enough protection from the referee... We got the penalty and played some nice stuff in the first half and once again forgot to play in the second half. When I look at my team, we needed to get our foot on the ball and make a couple of passes and take it a run, but we failed to do that."

"We were defensively poor ..."
|
ICT FC 3-3 Kilmarnock 21st February 2015
Three times Caley Jags took the lead. Three times Killie pulled them back, ultimately ensuring them a share of the points. Graeme Shinnie first put Caley Jags into the lead on 18 mins. Nathan Eccleston replied for Killie on 20 mins. Caley Jags pulled ahead again on 33 mins through a deflected strike by Nick Ross. On 45 mins Kilmarnock were back level again from a Craig Slater free-kick. Danny Williams put Caley Jags for the third time on 52 mins. The advantage lasted until 61 mins when Tope Obadeyi scored the final goal of the match.
Manager John Hughes: "We need to be a bit more ruthless and manage the game better, just to keep that back door shut. We were defensively poor from the front. But we'll take that dunt on the chin and hopefully come back from it on Tuesday night..."

St Mirren 1-2 ICT FC 14th February 2015
It was only one goal to nil for Caley Jags going into the break. This was despite them totally dominating the first half with a number of scoring opportunities. Greg Tansey put Caley Jags ahead after only 3 mins when he converted Graeme Shinnie's cut-back. The lead was doubled on 60 mins when Ryan Christie struck low to beat keeper Mark Ridgers. Jim Goodwin reduced the lead on 68 mins, heading in from a Stephen Mallan corner. The Buddies were unable to add to this and again the points went north.
Manager John Hughes: “Our first-half performance was exquisite, but the game should have been over at half-time had we taken our chances.”

Partick Thistle 1-2 ICT FC 7th February 2015
Scottish Cup R5
Caley Jags progressed to the Scottish Cup quarter-finals after a win at Firhill. A fairly comfortable first half saw them score twice. The Partick Jags had a stronger showing in the second half but only managed a single goal. Marley Watkins put the visitors ahead after 16 mins when he outpaced the home defence to slot past Paul Gallacher. Greg Tansey got a second for Caley Jags on 27 mins, again making short work of the home defence. Lyle Taylor came on as a substitute at the start of the second half. This tactical move was rewarded on 67 mins when his shot from the edge of the box beat Ryan Esson.
Manager John Hughes: "...On our first half performance it would have been an injustice had we not won the football match. Some of the stuff we played in the first half, it was real good stuff. Dominated the game and should have been two or three goals up. That's my only disappointment, no-one in the second half was brave enough to get on the ball, two or three passes, and take the sting out of the game. All credit to Partick Thistle they gave it a real good go and we just held on..."

ICT FC 1-1 Ross County 31st January 2015
Caley Jags share the points with local rivals Ross County after conceding a second half own goal. Earlier, Marley Watkins blasted low past Antonio Reguero to put Caley Jags ahead on 38 mins. It was 38 mins later that a Jackson Irvine cross intended for newly subsituted Jake Jervis made contact with Gary Warren before ending up in the net.
Manager John Hughes: "... All credit to Ross County, they're fighting for their lives and that showed in their performance. I'm just disappointed that we couldn't keep the back door shut after going a goal up. We could have defended their goal a little bit better, but a draw is probably a fair result..."

"... it wasn't a great performance..."
|
Hamilton Academical 0-2 ICT FC 24th January 2015
Caley Jags picked up another three points on the road, after scoring two second half goals. The first came on 53 mins. A close range shot from Graeme Shinnie was parried by keeper Michael McGovern against Grant Gillespie and then loop back over his head for an own goal. The second came on 76 mins when Nick Ross knocked in a Ross Draper lay-off from the edge of the box. In the end a comfortable win. Unfortunately, this was soured somewhat when Dean Brill was stretchered off with a leg injury on 94 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "I didn't enjoy the game. There was a real apprehension before the game. We were getting a bit complacent and it showed in the first half. Second half we got back to what we're all about. Even if it wasn't a great performance it showed me the spirit and that's what got us the win... But, credit to them in terms of still keeping that clean sheet... It's all about getting results and if you're getting results your job is made easy."

ICT FC 2-0 St Johnstone 20th January 2015
Caley Jags achieved a fourth consecutive win after comfortably defeating St Johnstone. Billy McKay struck first on 34 mins having received the ball from Graeme Shinnie. This was followed on 41 mins when Carl Tremarco's cross was knocked in by Marley Watkins. This result moved Caley Jags up to third place in the Premiership.
Manager John Hughes: "... For the first half of the season, they have been different class and it started from the first day back at pre-season. We played some wonderful football tonight and maybe on another night we might have scored another couple of goals, but I'll settle for keeping a clean sheet and scoring two."

"... two wonderful strikes..."
|
Kilmarnock 1-2 ICT FC 10th January 2015
Caley Jags and Killie had to contend with a Rugby Park subjected to sleet, rain, and high winds. Both teams had first half chances but neither keeper was beaten. Early in the second half David Raven received his second booking of the match and Caley Jags were down to ten men. Having taken down Josh Magennis in the box Killie were awarded a penalty. This was converted by Alexei Eremenko on 47 mins. Billy McKay then went on to score twice to win the match for Caley Jags. On 53 mins McKay nimbly wove his way through the defence to line up his shot which flew beyond Craig Samson. He then put Caley Jags into the lead on 81 mins with the aid of Nick Ross.
Manager John Hughes: "When you've got Billy McKay on the park, you've always got the chance of scoring goals and he came up with two wonderful strikes... It took us going down to 10 men and losing a goal to give us that intensity in our game. But, throughout the match I thought we dominated the game, but we lacked that killer instinct in the final third during the first half. The whole game changed on the sending off. They got their goal and it gave us the impetus to get on the front foot."

ICT FC 1-0 St Mirren 4th January 2015
Caley Jags had a difficult time trying to break down the Buddies' defence. The breakthrough came on 77 mins however through the combined efforts of David Raven and Billy McKay. Raven penetrated the visitors' defence to reach the bye-line before crossing to Mckay in the box. Flicking in, with his back to the goal, Mckay scored his second goal of 2015.
Manager John Hughes: "... We had to be patient. I always felt we were the better team. The boys showed a character, a willingness and a spirit to go and dig it out and I'm absolutely delighted to pick up the three points. When you've got a sniffer in front of goal like Billy McKay, you've always got a chance of winning the match. Great goal. He got to the front post with a back-flick through his standing leg and I was glad to see it hit the back of the net."

Ross County 1-3 ICT FC 1st January 2015
Caley Jags made a flying start to 2015 with a win in the latest Highland derby against Ross County. Aaron Doran managed to score twice, his first coming from a strike on 27 mins. Doran's second was deflected past keeper Antonio Reguero on 58 mins. County replied 2 mins later when Jackson Irvine headed in from a corner. Billy McKay re-established the two goal margin on 73 mins.
+
Manager John Hughes: "Our first-half performance was back to what we were doing early in the season. We were passing it very well and had total control of the football. We got our reward with the goal but we should have scored more in the first half. We adapted a little bit, knowing we could sit in and hit them on the counter. My only disappointment was losing the goal so quickly after scoring our second one, but it was a really good team performance... The link-up play was great and that was really pleasing. Tactically, the way we went about our business gave us a real foothold in the game and let us boss it..."

"... gung-ho and cavalier..."
|
ICT FC 0-1 Aberdeen 28th December 2014
Caley Jags finish the year with a third successive defeat. Just like the previous week, a single goal was enough to decide where the points were going. Peter Pawlett turned in a Niall McGinn cross on 12 mins to put the Dons within two points of league leaders Celtic.
Manager John Hughes: “... I’ve seen them (Aberdeen) a few times this season when they’ve been free-flowing, but they showed they know how to be dogged and resolute too. They have that know-how about them. We are gung-ho and cavalier and maybe need to learn to be more street-wise... It’s a test of character and what can be better than going up to Dingwall and getting back to winning ways.”

St Johnstone 1-0 ICT FC 20th December 2014
Caley Jags failed to overcome the Saints during their latest visit to McDiarmid Park. The one goal of the match came from a penalty on 62 min. Brian Graham went down in the box in the vicinity of Dean Brill. His antics were rewarded with a spot-kick which he took and converted.
Manager John Hughes: "... Even in defeat they show spirit. We're just looking at heavier pitches and asking if this is slowing our football down. If it is we just need to adjust and get back to winning ways. What these boys have done since I came to the club has been outstanding. I have no doubt whatsoever we will regroup. ICT FC 0-4 Partick Thistle 13th December 2014
Caley Jags had an unblemished home record this season until this week's visit by Partick Thistle. Ryan Stevenson put the Partick Jaggies ahead on 12 mins. He went on to double the visitors lead on 40 mins. Two further goals came from Partick in the second half without reply. Both Gary Fraser and Conrad Balatoni headed home. Fraser's goal came on 49 mins and Balatoni's on 56 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "From the first whistle, Partick Thistle deserved their victory. They were better on the ball, hungrier than us and their shape was better. We were unbeaten at home and we just need to take it on the chin. You get knocked off the bike sometimes and you have to pick yourselves up and get back on it... We got lucky last week. Dundee 1-2 ICT FC 6th December 2014
Caley Jags found themselves behind after 21 min when Greg Stewart scored following a Gary Harkins' free-kick. Caley Jags then levelled through Billy McKay on 55 mins. Substitute Ryan Christie tapped in from a Marley Watkins' pass on 88 mins to claim the points and move the team back to second spot in the league.
Manager John Hughes: "... I'd have taken a point here after going behind but we've got good legs in the team and we kept going. I don't think it was a great game - two teams cancelling each other out. Although we weren't at it, I said at half-time we can go up a couple of gears. I know my players can pull it out the bag. And you know what they say, if you're not playing too great, dig in and win, it's a sign that you are not a bad side. I'm delighted with the three points. The opener came from a Greg Tansey corner on 20 mins which was nodded in by Gary Warren. Moments later Jim Goodwin downed Marley Watkins in the box. Sean Kelly failed to clear from the rebound allowing Danny Williams to finish on 67 mins. Graeme Shinnie made it 4-0 on 90 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "It was a good team performance, we were clinical and I'm absolutely delighted. I have to admit I was a bit apprehensive about the game tonight but all credit to the boys, we went about our business in a real good manner. They are a wonderful bunch to work with. Caley Jags retook the lead on 71 mins through a Marley Watkins' header. Josh Meekings stretched the lead on 78 mins when a Greg Tansey corner was met at the back post by Meekings who tapped it home.
Manager John Hughes: "I felt we dominated the football and were always on the front foot, but we need to pass it with a better purpose and belief, everybody take part in the game, and that was the case in the second half. It just shows you the strength we've got on the bench because I felt the introduction of Aaron Doran and Nick Ross certainly swung it in our favour..."

"... we've really merited the victory..."
|
ICT FC 4-2 Hamilton Academical 8th November 2014
Caley Jags moved to the top of the table after beating Hamilton for the second time this season. However, it was Accies who scored first, from a Tony Andreu free-kick on 17 mins. Billy McKay brought the sides back level on 25 mins. A Gary Warren header on 59 mins put Caley Jags into the lead. McKay got his second, of the match, with a tap-in on 68 mins. Andreu cut back the Caley Jags lead on 72 mins. James Vincent's finish on 78 mins ensured a decisive win for the home side.
Manager John Hughes: "... Hopefully that's the monkey off his back and he can get going, get back to scoring goals. Billy McKay's a natural goalscorer. He's had a wee barren spell and been taking a bit of flak in the dressing room. He's a big character in the dressing room - small in stature but the boys look up to him for that inspiration... Today, we've really merited the victory. Hamilton can take great pride in what they're doing. On another day, it might've been their day but we were worthy of the victory."

"... we had Celtic on the back foot..."
|
Celtic 1-0 ICT FC 1st November 2014
Caley Jags managed to keep Celtic at bay until early in the second half. Then on 49 mins John Guidetti broke the deadlock. He was fed the ball by Anthony Stokes and went on to beat Dean Brill after sending him the wrong way. Despite a strong finish from Caley Jags, with chances falling to Carl Tremarco and Billy McKay, Celtic held on to claim the three points.
Manager John Hughes: "I'm disappointed in the goal, I felt there was a free-kick on Danny Williams and so did the boys... The game-plan was to keep it tight, keep the shape of the team and grow into the game. We certainly did that, although we rode out luck a little bit. In the last 20 minutes or so we had Celtic on the back foot a little bit. We gave as good as we got. The last time we came here Celtic took us for five so it shows the massive improvement that's gone on at Inverness."

"... I'm a bit disappointed..."
|
ICT FC 1-0 Dundee United 25th October 2014
Caley Jags finished the day back up into second place in the Premiership table having taken three points from Dundee United. The only goal of the match came on 11 mins. A low cross from David Raven was met by Marley Watkins who shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net. Although they dominated the game Caley Jags were unable to add to the scoreline.
Manager John Hughes: "All credit to Dundee United, they're always dangerous, they hang in there, but I felt overall we deserved the game. But I'm a bit disappointed we didn't score another goal. I felt our ball retention, our shape and our turnover of the football was more determined. When we get the ball back quick we can be more decisive. When we get into that final third, we've got to be more clinical, but in terms of commitment and shape, I can't ask for any more..."

"... it was a terrible game..."
|
St Mirren 0-1 ICT FC 18th October 2014
Caley Jags found themselves down to ten men after 50 mins when Ryan Christie picked up a second yellow card. They hang on to the end, however, to ensure a clean sheet. A Greg Tansey goal from a penalty on 43 mins ensured all three points went north.
Manager John Hughes: "... We'll take the three points and keep the clean sheet. But I thought it was a terrible game, I didn't enjoy it. It had too many bookings, too many stoppages and it never got going. It's unfortunate because I'm a manager and I like to see good football. I can imagine what the spectators are saying. We took all the credit because we were reduced to ten men. Wwe were very professional and we kept our shape, and we kept the back door shut. But it's about football, and we're here to entertain the punters."

"... I am a little disappointed..."

ICT FC 1-1 Ross County 5th October 2014
Caley Jags had to settle for draw after the season's first Highland derby. County went ahead on 21 mins when Yoann Arquin headed in from six yards. Marley Watkins responded for the home side on 49 mins. A Ryan Christie cross was deflected off Scott Boyd's head to land just right for Watkins to net from 10 yards.
Manager John Hughes: "... I am a little disappointed we didn't pick up the three points, but to get 17 points two games before the first quarter, all credit to the boys... That Lady Luck has just evaded us. Is it luck or that final bit of quality and that final decision making, that cut-back, that final pass, that cross that's letting us down? If I'm totally honest, they had one or two chances in the first half and Dean Brill had one or two saves, but we had enough chances in that second half to win two games never mind one."

"... we are going to make mistakes..."
|
Aberdeen 3-2 ICT FC 27th September 2014
Caley Jags took the lead on 16 mins when Josh Meekings was left free to head in from a Greg Tansey free kick. Aberdeen pulled back level shortly after when Adam Rooney scored on 24 mins. Shay Logan got a second for the Dons 5 mins before the break. Caley Jags drew level on 50 mins through Marley Watkins. Aberdeen went on to pick up the points though, after Jonny Hayes scored the winner on 59 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "... We have an open, expansive style of football and I ask the boys to get on the ball and play football and I've no doubt we are going to make mistakes. I take full responsibility because I want my boys to be brave. I am just proud at the way they took the game to Aberdeen and for long periods of the game played real good football... We could be a little bit more clinical and defend a bit better, but let's give Aberdeen respect - they are a good side. But we love being underdogs and coming to places like Pittodrie and giving it a right good go."

"... a sublime finish..."
|
ICT FC 2-1 St Johnstone 20th September 2014
Caley Jags got back to winning ways after playing host to St Johnstone. On 61 mins Aaron Doran broke down the left and squared the ball for Marley Watkins. Watkins then side-footed past keeper Alan Mannus to put Caley Jags ahead. The lead was doubled just 5 mins later by Ryan Christie, St Johnstone pulled one back through Brian Graham on 78 mins but were unable to find a second.
Manager John Hughes: "... It came for us in the second half and Marley Watkins came up with a sublime finish. Usain Bolt would struggle to keep up, he's that quick! Then young Christie showed his quality again and we were delighted when he came up trumps with the second goal. We always find it tough against St Johnstone. There's not much between the teams. My only disappointment is conceding a goal. At 2-0, with our style, we should have been playing keep-ball."

"... we played some lovely stuff..."
|
Rangers 1-0 ICT FC 16th September 2014
Scottish League Cup R2
Caley Jags failed to get past Rangers and into the third-round of the Scottish League Cup. The outcome was decided by a single goal which came on 78 mins. A Lewis Macleod strike was deflected off Josh Meekings and past Dean Brill. Garry Warren headed in in the final moments but was ruled offside.
Manager John Hughes: "I'm disappointed to lose the match but not in terms of the way we played... I thought we played some lovely stuff... The final pass was the thing that was letting us down tonight... I look at my team and I think my boys dominated the football for long periods. A wee bit of belief in the final third was all that was missing."

"... We need to put that behind us..."
|
Partick Thistle 3-1 ICT FC 13th September 2014
Caley Jags ended their unbeaten run, going down three goals to one to the other Jags. The game started well enough, for the visitors, with Arron Doran getting the first goal on 13 mins. Dean Brill was beaten for the first time this season on 19 mins when Steven Lawless curled his shot past him into the net. Abdul Osman scored on 23 mins after he headed in from a Kallum Higginbotham corner. Higginbotham went on the get Partick's third from a 25 yard strike on 72 mins. Partick had a chance at a fourth in added time when awarded a penalty. However, Brill saved James Craigen's effort.
Manager John Hughes: "... In the first half, we took the lead and I thought there was chances there to go and score more goals... Second half, the whole style of the game changes, Partick could sit in and hit us on the counter attack and, all credit to them, they did that. They scored a wonderful third goal. Even I applauded that... You'll never get me having a go at these boys as they have been absolutely brilliant since I came in. We need to put that behind us and let's go and try to improve."

ICT FC 2-0 Kilmarnock 30th August 2014
Caley Jags maintain their position at the top of the table for another week after a home win against Kilmarnock. A quiet first half was followed by a second that saw two Caley Jags goals and another clean sheet for the club. It was Aaron Doran who put the side ahead on 75 mins with his second of the season. This was followed just 5 mins later when Greg Tansey's 25 yarder struck the post and then rebounded into the net off the back of keeper Craig Sampson.
Manager John Hughes: "We have to be patient, and I said that to the players at half time. I felt some of our play wasn't too bad. We just lacked that final cutting edge in the final third... I just asked the players for a little bit of the stuff we work at on the training pitch, that final link-up or even a better quality cross. But it was our day, and I'm just grateful and thankful that we picked up the three points, because Kilmarnock were resolute..."

ICT FC 1-0 Celtic 23rd August 2014
Caley Jags remain at the top of the table after inflicting Celtic's first defeat of the season. On 65 mins, Billy McKay had his shot saved by Lukasz Zaluska who parried it away. The ball then went on to ricochet off Eoghan O'Connell, into his own net, for the only goal of the match. Caley Jags remain the only team in the league not to have conceded a goal this season.
Manager John Hughes: "We rode our luck a couple of times in the first half but we created a few chances ourselves. Then we got our goal, maybe too early. I like a goal in the 85th minute against Celtic. But we coped well, changed our shape, played on the break and could have nicked another one. We want to win as many games as we can as quickly as we can to make sure we stay in the Premiership, then we'll set about reassessing out targets."

"... total domination..."
|
Motherwell 0-2 ICT FC 16th August 2014
Caley Jags pick up another three points on the road after dominating Motherwell at Fir Park. Greg Tansey put his side ahead on 42 mins when he struck in low past keeper Dan Twardzik. Victory was ensured on 89 mins when Aaron Doran struck from the edge of the penalty box.
Manager John Hughes: "The first half performance was very good. We were slick with our ball retention and had c. The only frustration is that we had a few chances to score. But we got our wee break just before half-time and that settled us down... There is still a lot to do. For instance, I thought our crossing was very poor."

"... we could have scored another..."
|
Hamilton Academical 0-2 ICT FC 9th August 2014
Caley Jags get off to a winning start with goals from Billy McKay and Ryan Christie. McKay scored the first Scottish Premiership goal of the new season after 10 mins. A poor pass back to his keeper by Mikey Devlin was intercepted by McKay who then lofted the ball over Michael McGovern and into his net. Ryan Christie ensured victory when he added Caley Jags' second on 25 mins.
Assistant Manager Russell Latapy: "We got our two goals in the first half and we were solid enough in the second half... We kept the ball fairly well and took the pressure off of the game and at the end we could have scored another. What we tried to do was come out and impose ourselves on the game... and we got the result that we came here for."
