"... we deserved to win..."
|
ICT FC 2-0 St Johnstone 11th May 2014
Caley Jags finished the season on a high with a home win to retain fifth place in the table. There were no goals until 59 mins when Ryan Christie headed in past keeper Alan Mannus who had just blocked a shot from Aaron Doran. Greg Tansey got a second for the home side on 90 mins when he made space in the box and shot high past Mannus.
Manager John Hughes: "The first half was too slow, it was like an end-of-season or pre-season game. We needed to up the tempo. We were better second half and I felt that we deserved to win the game with our second-half performance... We'll keep his [Ryan Christie] feet firmly on the ground. He's one that's certainly got a bright, bright future. He's a lovely footballer and the players in the dressing room have really taken him on board, adopted him. They'll keep him grounded. Hopefully he's still here for a number of years, plying his trade up here in Inverness, becoming a first-team regular and scoring goals like he did today."

"... we were the better team..."
|
Motherwell 2-1 ICT FC 7th May 2014
Caley Jags failed to pick up any points after their mid-week trip to Fir Park. John Sutton put the Steelmen ahead from the spot after only 4 mins. The lead was doubled on 32 mins when Gary Warren managed to head the ball into his own net. Graeme Shinnie pulled one back for the Caley Jags on 55 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "The full-back stopped a cross like a goalkeeper, so for me that's a penalty. But we put enough into it, dominated the whole second half, had them right on the back foot, played with a little more hunger and desire. Everything I'm looking for from an Inverness team. We played with more purpose and pace in the second half. I felt we were the better team, especially in the second half, but goals win games and if we keep conceding like that, we'll not win many."

ICT FC 1-1 Dundee United 3rd May 2014
Caley Jags went into the lead after only 7 mins. A Marley Watkins' cross was met met, at the far post, by the head of Ryan Christie to beat keeper Radoslaw Cierniak. Dean Brill made a number of crucial saves to keep Caley Jags ahead. On 71 mins Farid El Alagui, however, smashed the ball past Brill after a scramble in the box. The match finished with the sides sharing the points.
Manager John Hughes: "The first 30 minutes we were good. We controlled the tempo, showed good ball retention and scored a good goal. However, it was all Dundee United in the second half. Did they deserve something from the game? Yes, 100 per cent. But the way they got the goal was disappointing as I thought we should have had a free-kick as the boy jumped into Dean Brill. For me, that's a free-kick..."

"... really disappointing..."
|
Celtic 6-0 ICT FC 27th April 2014
Caley Jags did no better in their latest encounter with Celtic than they did at the beginning of March. The first half hour went well and then thing fell apart. Anthony Stokes scored a hat-trick with goals on 34 mins, 45 mins and 53 mins, the latter a penalty. Two minutes later Caley Jags were also awarded a penalty, but Aaron Doran failed to score. Celtic went on to score three more before the game was over. Leigh Griffiths scored on 68 mins, Efe Ambrose on 78 mins and less than a minute later Teemu Pukki.
Manager John Hughes: "... Celtic were awfully good and every time they went forward, they looked like they were going to score. Two or three of the goals were self-inflicted, getting done on the counter attack. We're a better team than that... We came here with a game plan to try and keep in the game and it was really disappointing... We'll never overtake Celtic but we might give the rest of them a good go."

"There is room for improvement ..."
|
ICT FC 0-0 Aberdeen 18th April 2014
Caley Jags fought out another goalless draw against second place Aberdeen. Both sides hit the woodwork and both keepers were tested.
Manager John Hughes: "We had the better of the chances and were solid at the back. Aberdeen's a far, far bigger club than us and to go out and match them is all credit to our players. Looking at the game, we rode our luck with the one that hit the crossbar and Dean Brill had some saves to make. If Billy McKay had scored just before half-time, that could have allowed us to go on and win the game. There is room for improvement, but they are a great bunch of guys and they played some good football."

|
Ross County 1-2 ICT FC 4th April 2014
Caley Jags picked up all three points from the latest Highland derby. The Inverness side went ahead just before half time when Aaron Doran blasted the ball high into the net on 45 mins. County levelled just 5 mins into the second half through a deflected shot from Filip Kiss. Billy McKay came to the rescue, for Caley Jags, when he volleyed in on 79 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "... When we're up and we're at it and everybody's on song we're a good side. I'm delighted for the boys because they deserve it. Since I've come into the club they've given me nothing but respect. They want to listen, want to learn, and want to train to get better. We played some real good stuff tonight, it makes it all worthwhile. We've played better than that. We were better than that last time we came up here, we were better away to Aberdeen. I want to see us passing the ball, but I want to see us winning football matches..."

"...we can't keep giving goals away ..."
|
ICT FC 1-2 Motherwell 1st April 2014
Caley Jags went into the break a goal down after Henri Anier stabbed in off the post on 40 mins. Sub Ryan Christie got his first Caley Jags' goal on 74 mins to bring the sides level again. However, Iain Vigurs put Motherwell back in the lead, to claimed all three points, on 83 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "It's two long balls that have beat us tonight. They were very hard to break down, they got behind the ball... We've done everything that we can to try and win the football match... We gave it our best shot but we can't keep giving goals away the way we've given them tonight. We just need to dust ourselves down and get on with it, we've got a derby match Friday night and we're looking forward to it."

"... referee got it wrong..."
|
ICT FC 2-2 St Mirren 29th March 2014
Caley Jags continue to find it difficult to win at home. Having gone head they allowed the Buddies to level and share the points. St Mirren went ahead early on when Jason Naismith scored on 3 mins. Ross Draper brought the teams level again when he headed in on 16 mins. Caley Jags went ahead on 34 mins through Greg Tansey, Parity was achieved again on 62 mins through a Sean Kelly header. Josh Meekings was dismissed for a foul on Josh Magennis 5 mins later.
Manager John Hughes: “I don’t think it was a red card. When the foul was committed Graeme Shinnie was in line with him and the boy was never getting a second touch, that’s for sure. The referee got it wrong. It wasn’t a red card, simple as that. I asked the fourth official for an explanation and he found it very difficult to give me one. It’s two points dropped. Motherwell on Tuesday is now a must-win match.”

Dundee United 2-1 ICT FC 26th March 2014
Caley Jags picked up no points after their mid week visit to Tannadice. However it was a much improved performance from Caley Jags compared to their last meeting. It was evens at the break with neither side having scored. Ryan Gauld put United ahead on 49 mins. Ryan Dow got their second on 76 mins after Dean Brill failed to get his clearance past the striker. Liam Polworth struck back on 81 mins. United managed to hold on to their lead despite a strong Caley Jags fight back in the final minutes.
Manager John Hughes: " ... I felt we were a match tonight for Dundee United in terms of playing football, but once again self-inflicted mistakes cost us. We've got that wee lack of concentration where we self-implode. We have to get rid of that, the concentration levels have to be better... Too much water kills the plant and we keep telling the boys to go back to the well and they've done absolutely fantastic. I just felt tonight there was a little bit of fatigue, but we'll dress them up and get them ready to go again."

ICT FC 1-0 Partick Thistle 22nd March 2014
Caley Jag's goal drought finally came to an end when Billy McKay put his team ahead after 62 mins. Graeme Shinnie took a free-kick which was met by the head of Ross Draper who in turn found McKay who headed into the bottom right-hand corner. The Caley Jags' support had waited 524 mins since the teams last goal and were not surprised that it was McKay who delivered.
Manager John Hughes: "I don't think it was a classic by any stretch of the imagination. We were a little lacklustre in the first half but we hung in there. Second half we were much better, played with a lot more energy and could have scored another couple of goals. Billy's missed a great chance before he's scored the header... The effort, commitment and the shape of the team in the second half was very pleasing. We kept a clean sheet once again which we pride ourselves on..."

"... a real lapse of concentration..."
|
Motherwell 2-0 ICT FC 19th March 2014
Caley Jags started well but defensive lapses meant no points from this mid week fixture. Motherwell went ahead on 26 mins through Lionel Ainsworth. John Sutton added their second on 34 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "... I felt we could've taken something out of it. I felt Motherwell scored against the run of play, but it was a great finish and a real lapse of concentration on our part. Their goalkeeper had two or three great saves. We had a chance in the second half we should've put it in the back of the net. We have to be more ruthless in our defending. In terms of effort, commitment and passing the ball, I couldn't ask for any more from the boys..."

Aberdeen 0-0 ICT FC aet (Pen 4-2) 16th March 2014
Scottish League Cup Final
Caley Jags and Aberdeen fought it out for 120 mins without either side scoring. It was Caley Jags' first time in a final for a major cup. The encounter, on Sunday, was hosted at Celtic Park. 7,800 Caley Jags fans attended the 2014 Scottish League Cup Final along with over 40,000 Dons fans. The Caley Jags defence had improved considerably over their recent outings. Unfortunately the winning goal did not materialise for them. In the end it came came down to a penalty shot-out and Caley Jags picked up their runners up medals. Well done to Ross Draper who was presented with the man of the match award. Well done team... onwards and upwards.
Manager John Hughes: "... I feel for the boys that missed. We have to pick them up and get going again. Tactically we were solid. The shape was good, the game plan was working a treat. We didn't have enough, really, to go and work Jamie Langfield. That was disappointing. But, every one of them to a man are absolute heroes. To get to a national cup final, I really take my hat off to them. We just need to lick our wounds and get on with it. On another day, we might have won it."

ICT FC 0-0 Hibernian 12th March 2014
It was points shared in Inverness after this no score encounter between Caley Jags and Hibernian. A clean sheet was welcome following the Caley Jags' last two outings. The one point puts Caley Jags back to fourth in the table.
Manager John Hughes: "...It wasn't the greatest game in the world, to be honest, but I felt we could have stolen it. Aaron Doran has drawn a good save from the goalkeeper and there were two chances in the first half that just went past the post. The overhead conditions were a bit blustery and it was a difficult surface..."

|
ICT FC 0-5 Dundee United 9th March 2014
Scottish Cup QF
Caley Jags went down five goals to nil for the second game in succession. Nadir Ciftci was gifted the opening two goals. The first was on 16 mins, the second on 28 mins. Gavin Gunning then scored from the spot on 36 mins. Caley Jags went down to ten men on 44 mins when Greg Tansey was sent off. Gary Mackay-Steven made it four for the visitors on 49 mins. Stuart Armstrong headed in number five for United on 57 mins. Caley Jags finished the match with only nine men, Marley Watkins being sent off on 72 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "...Give credit where it's due - Dundee United were good and they deserved it, but we made it easy for them... I felt the first two goals were self-inflicted, we could have defended them better and before you know it you're chasing the game. The third one's a penalty. I've seen them given, no complaints about that. With the sending off you're up against it and it's damage limitation after that... To win a football match of this importance, of this magnitude, you have to be solid and resolute, and we weren't that..."

"... we came and had a go..."
|
Celtic 5-0 ICT FC 1st March 2014
Caley Jags were beaten convincingly by Celtic during their latest visit to Glasgow. Leigh Griffiths scored a hat-trick and it was one each for Charlie Mulgrew and Kris Commons. Griffiths got Celtic's first after 12 min when he volleyed in from an Emilio Izaguirre cross. Mulgrew got his on 22 mins when he flicked in at the near post from a Griffiths corner. Griffiths got his second on 57 mins when he blasted in from sixteen yards. Substitute Commons got his name on the score sheet on 78 mins when his shot from twenty five yards slipped under a diving Dean Brill. Griffiths then beat Brill on 85 mins to complete his-hat trick.
Manager John Hughes: “We can take a lot from the game. One thing I will say is that we came and had a go... We’re having quite a good season and playing with confidence. Given our defensive record it’s disappointing to lose five goals – we could have prevented one or two. But Celtic are the best in Scotland and you need to learn from these games even in defeat. I don’t think we’ll ever get to where Celtic are and I said that to our boys after the game. This result isn’t going to define our season. It won’t harm us..."

Caley Jags beat Ross County in Dingwall for the first time in ten years, doing it convincingly. David Raven put his side ahead, with his first goal for Caley jags, on 8 mins. Billy McKay doubled the lead on 40 mins. The final goal of the match came on 78 mins when Marley Watkins rolled the ball past the County goalkeeper Mark Brown.
Manager John Hughes: "... If we were a little bit more slick, we could've scored another one or two goals. We can play in a number of ways and tonight with the quick surface, we could just suck them in and hit them on the counter-attack. The shape of the team... the tactics - spot on. It gave us the platform to go and play football..."

|
St Johnstone 0-1 ICT FC 22nd February 2014
Caley Jags left Perth with all three points after the only gaol of the match came on 42 mins from a Garry Warren header. St Johnstone were always a threat and should have scored from the head of Nigel Hasselbaink on 57 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "... The league campaign's our bread and butter, I feel that's where you get judged, and so to come here and pick up the victory, I'm absolutely delighted... I think we were worth the win. In the first ten minutes we could have been a couple of goals up. We got a little bit lucky in the second half when they missed a header just past the post... the boy should have scored."

ICT FC 2-0 Stranraer 18th February 2014
Scottish Cup R5 Replay
Caley Jags had a lucky start to the fifth-round replay when they went ahead after only 3 mins. Stranraer's Scott Robertson managed to cannon the ball off Nick Ross into the away side's goal. Despite this, Stranraer always looked like they could cause an upset for the home side. The win was sealed however, on 90 min, when substitute Aaron Doran's strike alsofound the net.
Manager John Hughes: "... For us on a sticky pitch it was all about getting through, we're thankful that is the case. We left it late, we always seem to make it difficult for ourselves up here. We were in total control in terms of getting on the ball and creating chances, but I've seen us play better. There's something happening up here. We've got a lot of games coming up, if we can keep everyone injury and suspension free, then the squad's big enough and good enough to cope. We'll just keep winning football matches and see where it takes us."

ICT FC 0-0 Hearts 15th February 2014
Caley Jags drop to fifth place after a no score draw at home to Hearts. Marley Watkins, Billy McKay, David Raven and Greg Tansey all hit the woodwork during the first half. Caley Jags maintained the pressure through the second half but could not find the net. Hearts had their best opportunities in the final minutes but were also denied a winner.
Manager John Hughes: "It's just one of they days... No complaints about the effort, commitment and style of play. in terms of ball retention we were well on top. Totally controlled the football match. Hit the woodwork five times, two cleared off the line, creating plenty chances, two cleared off the line, good entertainment for the supporters, passed it very well. It's a little bit frustrating but not too disappointing, it's only frustration..."

Stranraer 2-2 ICT FC 8th February 2014
Scottish Cup R5
Caley Jags managed to get a late draw at Stair Park to earn a replay at Tulloch Caledonian Stadiun. Aaron Doran put the Inverness side in front on 40 mins. However, the sides were level again just 5 mins later when Martin Grehan converted a penalty. Stranraer then went ahead on 72 mins through a powerful strike from Jamie Longworth. Billy McKay headed in from close range 2 mins later to bring the sides level again. With neither side scoring again a replay was set for the 18th February.
Manager John Hughes: "I loved every single minute of the match. Credit to Stranraer, they just about managed to pull it off, but once again we don't do anything easy at Inverness. We showed character to come back from it and dug deep to equalise. Apart from one of two breakaways I thought we hemmed them in and we might have scored one or two goals. That might have been a bit hard on Stranraer though. They deserve their replay..."

Hearts 2-2 ICT FC aet (Pen 2-4) 2nd February 2014
Scottish League Cup SF
Caley Jags progressed to the final of the Scottish League Cup after forcing their latest encounter with Hearts to a penalty shootout. The score remained level until 54 mins when Greg Tansey's blistering 22 yard drive beat keeper Jamie MacDonald. Hearts then scored on 67 mins through a Jamie Hamill free-kick. The free-kick was awarded after Gary Warren received his second yellow card. Hamill scored again 2 mins later from another set piece. Caley Jags went down to nine men when Josh Meekings received a red card on 91 mins. Nick Ross saved the day on 94 mins when he forced the ball past MacDonald. The depleted Caley Jags team managed to keep Hearts at bay for the duration of extra time. Graeme Shinnie had his penalty saved. Dean Brill the saved Paul McCallum's shot. Billy McKay scored for Caley Jags. Dale Carrick scored for Hearts. Nick Ross then also scored. Jamie Hamill then had his shot stopped by Brill. Greg Tansey then scored, followed by one from Scott Robinson for Hearts. Caley Jags could not be beaten after Ross Draper went on to convert his penalty.
Manager John Hughes: "It is nothing to do with me. It is these boys and all we do is try to organise them. Someone up there likes me and the boys thoroughly deserve it. I have to say I don't think Gary Warren's first one was a yellow card and I don't think Josh Meekings was a red card. It could make it a bit of a lottery in the final with our two centre-halves missing."

Kilmarnock 2-0 ICT FC 25th January 2014
Caley Jags failed to build on last week's win, going down to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Killie went ahead on 16 mins via the head of Lee Ashcroft. They doubled the lead in the second half through Kris Boyd on 74 mins.
Manager John Hughes: "... I felt our passing was good, although we were a bit sloppy in the first half. We lacked that killer pass. We never created too many chances, and then we lost the goal from a set play... We had a great standard last week, and we fell below it, it's very disappointing... It just wasn't to be. Caley Jags managed their first win in six games after their victory against Aberdeen. There was also the satisfaction of keeping a clean sheet having let in four goals in their last encounter. The only goal of the match came on 22 mins when Danny Williams scored his first for the club.
Manager John Hughes: "I felt we deserved it. We were a bit lacking in a physical presence with suspensions and injuries, but we stood up to it. Throughout the match, some of the football was exceptional. All the work you do on the training pitch is coming to the fore and all the best chances, a right good half a dozen of them. Manager John Hughes: “... Even in defeat over the last three games or so, the boys have been magnificent. We’re short on bodies, we’re putting round pegs in small holes. So there are plenty of positives. We were good when we were at it and we were entertaining. I’m seeing the work on the training pitch coming out in games.”

|
ICT FC 1-2 Ross County 1st January 2014
Caley Jags were two goals down in the first half, scored once in the dying minutes, enabling Ross County to claim their first win since the 5th October last year. County's two goals came from Scott Boyd on 15 mins and Alex Cooper on 17 mins. Aaron Doran pulled one back for Caley Jags on 89 mins
Manager John Hughes: "... Once again, we have to be more street-wise in terms of our team shape, but I fear as a coach and a manager you have to go out there and entertain, get on the ball and make things happen. So sometimes I might have to look at it as well. I felt we did everything that we could in terms of change of shape. We went with three men at the back. Even after big Drapes got sent off, we still made the substitution and we still had four up front and maybe were just too expansive resulting in us leaving ourselves wide open."

ICT FC 0-1 Celtic 29th December 2013
Caley Jags have still to achieve their first home win under John Hughs after losing out to Celtic. Celtic only managed one goal which came from Kris Commons after only 3 mins but it was enough for them to claim all three points. Caley Jags finish the year in a strong position, in fourth place, with a game in hand.
Manager John Hughes: "Celtic knew they were in a game. Our ball retention was a lot better, we competed, the shape of the team was good... Our penetration in the final third, that wee link-up combination play, could have been a little bit better but that gives us plenty to work on..."

|
ICT FC 3-4 Aberdeen 21st December 2013
Caley Jags were unable to beat Aberdeen for the second time this season. Despite being in control of the match for the first twenty minutes they managed to go four goals down by half time. Three goals were pulled back in the second half, enough to salvage pride but not the points. Barry Robson put the Dons ahead from the spot on 22 mins. Robson then headed in their second just 10 mins later. Peter Pawlett added the third soon after, on 37 mins, while Niall McGinn's contribution came on 44 mins. Billy McKay pulled Caley Jags back into the match at the start of the second half with goals on 47 and 57 mins. Graeme Shinnie's header on 90 mins, which resulted in a frantic 5 mins of added time, was the final goal of the match.
Manager John Hughes: "All credit to the boys, they showed great character to come back, but you can't give teams four goals of a start and expect to get something out of the match. I thought we were the better team for the first 20-25 minutes and, once they got their goal, it put them on the front foot and they were very good. We were struggling to hold them, but we told them to come out and win the second half and restore a bit of pride and they certainly did that. Even in defeat, I'm very proud of the them..."

Hearts 0-2 ICT FC 14th December 2013
Caley Jags had to overcome swirling winds, heavy rain and a determined Hearts' defence before clinching another three points. Hearts managed to ensure the first half ended with both teams evenly matched. Billy McKay turned the game in Caley Jags' favour with two second half strikes, with assists from Marley Watkins. The first on 59 mins came when he made some space in the box and curled his shot around keeper Jamie MacDonald. This was followed on 83 mins when he blasted the ball into the top corner of the net.
Manager John Hughes: "... They are a special bunch. I am not saying we are going to win every match but everybody that we play against will know they have been in a game... That's five clean sheets. Everybody is playing their part and I am absolutely delighted for them..."

St Mirren 0-0 ICT FC 7th December 2013
Caley Jags remain in second spot after drawing with St Mirren in Paisley. This was John Hughes first game in charge. He remained in the stand while Duncan Shearer manned the dugout. St Mirren had the best of the first half but were unable to beat keeper Dean Brill. Although they were more dominant in the second half Caley Jags were unable to score. A share of the points was a fair end to the match.
Manager John Hughes: "...I felt there were one or two self-inflicted mistakes which put St Mirren on the front-foot. They were the better side in the first half, our keeper had two great saves to keep us in the match. In the second half, it settled own. I left it to Duncan in the dressing room at half-time. ICT FC 4-0 Greenock Morton 30th November 2013
Caley Jags progressed to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup following a difficult match against Greenock Morton. Caley Jags had to wait until the end of the first half before going ahead. A foul on Ross Draper, by Craig Reid, resulted in a penalty which was converted by Nick Ross on 45 mins. Half time lasted an extra 35 mins due to a power failure. Billy McKay headed in a second for Caley Jags on 71 mins. McKay struck again on 90 mins just before the second penalty of the match. Morton went down to ten men at the end when Scott Taggart was sent off after a foul on Torbjorn Agdestein. This time it was Aaron Doran who scored from the spot.
Caretaker manager Duncan Shearer: "That was a hard one. I watched them a couple of weeks ago and believe me that was a different side that I watched. It's all credit to the new manager in charge. Fair play to David, they pushed another man up and they tried to get something out of the game. They had a couple of cross balls that caused us problems, but once we got the third I thought we were home and dry."

ICT FC 1-0 St Johnstone 23rd November 2013
Caley Jags went ahead through a Billy McKay goal after only 4 mins. Tight defending for the remained of the match ensured St Johnstone had few opportunities to get back into the game. Caley Jags end the week still in second place, only five points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic.
Caretaker manager Duncan Shearer: "I thought the fans were terrific. They knew we were under some pressure at the end and got behind us which was immense.. I didn't enjoy the game but I was delighted for the back four. Because they got rubbished about down there last time and they were determined that it wasn't going to happen again today. They were backed up by the midfield and of course wee Billy who got the goal for us. He didn't do much for the rest of the game but I'll take that kind of striker any day."

Hibernian 0-2 CT FC 9th November 2013
Caley jags reclaimed second spot in the table after a comfortable away win against Hibernian. Nick Ross scored from the spot on 14 mins after Graeme Shinnie was pushed over by James Collins in the penalty area. Ben Williams did manage to get his fingers to the ball but it was not enough to keep it out. Billy McKay followed up 4 mins later when he rounded Williams to slide the ball home.
Assistant Manager Maurice Malpas: "... I thought it was a fantastic performance. We started the game brightly and, once we scored our two goals, we were rampant for a little while. Every time we attacked them on the break, we looked like we could score and the boys deserve every credit. With the hullabaloo that went on before the game, they went out and showed what true professionals they are..."

ICT FC 2-1 Kilmarnock 2nd November 2013
Caley Jags went back to second spot in the Scottish Premiership after beating visitors Kilmarnock. The two goal margin was maintained until 76 mins when Darren Barr scored Killie's only goal of the match.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... This team has a lot in it. We don’t know how good we can be or what’s at the end of it for us. But we have certainly given ourselves a good platform to build upon. They are all great lads. It has taken a bit of shaping, but it is great to see them play...”

"... It’s frustrating..."
|
Ross County A-A ICT FC 25th October 2013
Caley Jags didn't pick up any points this weekend and drop down from second in the table. A lack of floodlights for the second half resulted in this match being abandoned.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... It’s frustrating but at least we could have four-and-a-half Highland derbies this season. That’s the only good thing, It was boiling up nicely and I was looking forward to the second half.”

ICT FC 1-2 Partick Thistle 20th October 2013
Caley Jags suffered their first home defeat in the Scottish Premiership to Partick Thistle. Partick went ahead after 20 mins when Kris Doolan scored his first of two goals. Garry Warren pulled the sides level early in the second half when he headed in on 47 mins. Doolan's second came on 83 mins after Dean Brill fumbled the ball.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was bizarre because we lost the game. I still can't work out how we lost it. We should have at least had a point, if not three. We've had great opportunities. We hit the post and we had what we feel was a good goal disallowed in the first half. I'm really disappointed to lose a game which we should have got at least a point from..."

"... a right good tonking ..."
|
St Johnstone 4-0 ICT FC 5th October 2013
Caley Jags vacated their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a defeat at the hands of St Johnstone. Saints scored the first of their four goals through Stevie May on 18 mins. Dave McKay followed this with a close range effort on 27 mins. Caley Jags fought back in the second half but Saints were more persistent with Steven MacLean scoring twice, first on 73 mins and then on 82 mins.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... We were happy it was only four, because it could have been a lot more. They were first to everything, we were probably third, not even second so we didn't win any second balls. They were good in that department, they were good in every department. It was a right good tonking and it hurts but we'll take it on the chin. We need to re-group, and get back to the basics we've shown all season..."

|
Dundee 0-1 ICT FC 24th September 2013
Caley Jags overcame Dundee at Dens Park to progress to the fourth round of League Cup. The only goal of the match came after 11 mins when Billy McKay beat keeper Kyle Letheren.
Manager Terry Butcher: "The players have got to buy Dean Brill a big drink because he has kept us in the cup. The team that turned up tonight is not the team that got us to the top of the league and the players have been told that in no uncertain terms... Fair play to Dundee, it was a great performance from them. They are the ones who deserve to go through, not us. They caused us problems, we didn't do well enough in possession or out of possession. They bossed the game in every department."

"... We'll certainly bounce back ..."
|
Aberdeen 1-0 ICT FC 21rd September 2013
Caley Jags went into their match against Aberdeen unbeaten since the start of the season. All was going well until Don's substitute Scott Vernon's goal on 81 mins. It was enough for them to claim the three points. Caley Jags, however, finish the weekend still at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Manager Terry Butcher: "We didn't play to our fluency but top of the table clashes are very nip and tuck. We felt that if a team was going to score, it would be us... Sometimes you need a bit of a slap in the face to wake you up and get you going again. You learn more in a defeat like this than you do in a victory. We'll certainly bounce back and show that resilience..."

Kilmarnock 1-2 ICT FC 14th September 2013
Caley Jags took an early lead when Richie Foran headed in after only 6 mins. Killie drew level on 51 mins. A Graeme Shinnie clearance was diverted into the net by Barry Nicholson. Billy McKay then lobbed the keeper for the winning goal on 56 mins. Caley Jags finish the week comfortable at the top of the table.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... It was a big challenge for our boys and we got a goal virtually straight away. Today was not our best, yet we still got the three points. We didn't play with any real fluency, little glimpses of it, but we didn't make many chances. The players have to realise that teams are going to raise their game against us now, which is a little bit different to what it has been..."

|
ICT FC 2-0 Hearts 31st August 2013

McKay first beat keeper Jamie MacDonald on 10 mins when he swept in a David Raven cross. A James Vincent pass on 32 mins led to curling shot from McKay ans Caley Jags' second goal.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was a good three points, but for some poor finishing and MacDonald in goal it could have been more. We had some great chances in the second half it was nice to score two goals like that in the first. Billy McKay is on fire..."

Manager Terry Butcher: "It wasn't quite to be. We are not disappointed. We are quite excited. To come here undefeated and leave undefeated, we have had a happy day... We played a slightly different way today and had to do that against Celtic. But we like to play attacking football and hopefully we can do that next week against Hearts. All-round, we are in pretty decent shape."

Manager Terry Butcher: “We saw a different side to the players out there, especially in the second half. We showed a lot of grit and resilience. We’ve got a new motto for the team – ‘stamina, steel and style’... I’ve got it in Latin somewhere, but I can’t remember it off the top of my head. It’ll come back to me after a few glasses of red.”

Dundee United 0-1 ICT FC 10th August 2013
A single Billy McKay goal was enough to ensure Caley Jags remained unbeaten in the new Scottish Premiership. The only goal of the match came on 20 mins after McKay lobbed the ball over the head of keeper Radoslaw Cierzniak.
Manager Terry Butcher: "I'm pleased with the effort, the shape and the commitment. They're a great bunch of guys.Everybody works their socks off. If one man gets beaten, there's another one and then another one. They took the game to United, passed the ball well and pressed ever so well. We played the game in their half nearly all of the second half. These boys are full of energy. It was a powerful second half, powerful..."
