"We've had a brilliant campaign..."
|
Ross County 1-0 ICT FC 19th May 2013
Caley Jags were unable to finish the season with the win that would have resulted in a Europa League place. Ross County scored the only goal of the match to ensure that they finished the season just one point behind Caley Jags. Andre Hainault claimed the points for County with a 10-yard volley on 44 mins. Caley Jags were minus four of their most experienced players when Owain Tudur Jones, Ross Draper, Richie Foran and Gary Warren were not available. Despite the day's result Caley Jags finished the season in fourth place, by far their best finish to date.
Manager Terry Butcher: "We've had great support all season, away from home especially, and we just couldn't give them that final win today. It wasn't for the lack of trying. We had a very, very young side. Just that little bit of experience that was missing I think told in the end. We've had four defeats out of five in the top six and we had a great opportunity last week to clinch it and we didn't... It wasn't about today, it was about the rest of the season. We've had a brilliant campaign, I can not fault my players. I said to them before the game they've given every ounce of effort to me and the club... It's just incredible where we've come from four years ago to today. It's just been remarkable and we want more."

"... hugely disappointing..."
|
ICT FC 1-2 Dundee United 11th May 2013
Caley Jags had an opportunity to claim a Europa League slot next season by picking up three points today. Dundee United had an alternative agenda however. Caley Jags finished the first half one goal to the good after Aaron Doran scored on 42 minutes. United didn't wait long to reply and were rewarded when Ryan Dow scored on 50 mins. A late strike by Gary Mackay-Steven on 90 sealed the win for the visitors.
Manager Terry Butcher: “That was hugely disappointing. We had enough opportunities to win two or three matches. It’s our fault that we’re not in Europe, and it’s massively disappointing that at 1-0 we’ve conceded. We let chance after chance go missing, and they’ve hit us with a sucker punch. This is going to be a hard one to get over.”

ICT FC 4-3 Motherwell 4th May 2013
Caley Jags got off to a tremendous start going three goals ahead after only 27 mins. Motherwell pulled back level before the decider went to the home side. Billy McKay was first to the net, 3 mins into the match. Andrew Shinnie was next on 25 mins only to be followed 2 mins later by McKay's second. Motherwell fought back and were rewarded when James McFadden scored on 36 mins. Michael Higdon then scored from the spot on 49 mins. McFadden brought the sides level on 64 mins. McKay sealed it for Caley Jags when he completed his hat-trick on 84 mins.
Manager Terry Butcher: "For the neutral it was a wonderful spectacle. It was a great comeback by Motherwell in the second half. They have got quality, they have a four-man attack which is tremendous. It was a wonderful game of football, both teams hammer and tongs at each other and end-to-end stuff. Motherwell are a great team, they have had a great season. It's a fantastic club and I'm glad that they are up there as well. Hopefully they can finish second and we can finish third."

"... absolutely terrific... absolutely brilliant..."
|
St Johnstone 1-0 ICT FC 27th April 2013
No points for Caley jags this week after they go down to ten men after only 12 mins. David Raven was sent packing by referee Craig Thomson for a professional foul on Rowan Vine. Despite the disadvantage Caley Jags managed to keep the Saints at bay until Steven MacLean scored on 77 mins.
Manager Terry Butcher: "We played 78 minutes with 10 men and probably the youngest back four the SPL has ever seen - a 21-year-old, two 20-year-olds and a 19-year old. I think we have been absolutely terrific. We frustrated St Johnstone and stopped them from playing. We had to concede a lot of ground and I thought we might just do something on the break. We were looking quite secure and then we made a mistake and conceded a goal. I can't say any more about my boys' attitude and desire and togetherness. It was absolutely brilliant..."

"We can play a lot better."
|
ICT FC 0-0 St Johnstone 5th April 2013
Caley Jags fought out a goaless draw with St Johnstone during this Friday night fixture. The point extended Caley Jag's unbeaten run to seven matches and kept them in third place, only two points behind Motherwell.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... I'm very disappointed. The back four and the goalkeeper did very well, as they had to deal with a lot of pressure. St Johnstone had good possession but didn't really make a lot of clear-cut chances. We had chances, but I was disappointed with us going forward. We can play a lot better..."

"It's great to win a derby..."
|
ICT FC 2-1 Ross County 16th March 2013
Caley Jags hosted Ross County just two weeks after their goalless encounter in Dingwall. This time a win for the hosts allowed them to go back above County into third place. A tap in on 5 mins by Andrew Shinnie put Caley Jags ahead. County levelled half an hour later through Paul Lawson. Mihael Kovacevic's sliding tackle brought down Charlie Taylor on 57 mins. The resulting penalty was converted two minutes later by Billy McKay.
Manager Terry Butcher: "You've got to give credit to Ross County. They're a good side, they never know when they're beaten. It's great to win a derby, it's great to be unbeaten against them this season as well and now we move above them... We've got some good players, we've got the nucleus of a great team next year as well, they'll benefit from this experience. We want to make this season really, really special."

Dundee 1-1 ICT FC 9th March 2013
Caley Jags fell behind to Dundee, after 13 mins, when John Baird's 20 yard shot beat Ryan Esson. It took another 70 mins before a header from Billy McKay brought the sides level.
Manager Terry Butcher: "We didn't play at any tempo. Our speed of passing, movement and touch was very laboured. Early on we started brightly, with a spark... then Dundee scored - probably against the run of play - but they scored - and it gave them a lot of belief. After that, we huffed and puffed and got one or two things going..."

"Both teams deserve praise..."
|
Ross County 0-0 ICT FC 2nd March 2013
The long awaited Highland derby, originally scheduled for 2nd January, ended in a goal-less draw. This was the second time the teams had met in the SPL. However, this time both were sitting as top-six clubs. The day ended, as it started, with Caley Jags sitting in third place with Ross County just one point behind.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... It was a typical derby. The ball was there to be won and both teams were superbly committed. Both teams deserve praise, they had a right go at each other. I don't think any team deserved to lose and it's two great points for the Highlands."

ICT FC 0-0 Dundee United 27th February 2013
Caley Jags fought out a goalless draw in this midweek fixture. One point was enough to claim third place in the league. This leaves them one place above Ross County going into Saturday's highland derby.
Manager Terry Butcher: "I'm very pleased with the effort the boys put in... I think both teams didn't do enough in the final third, but it was still a great game with good passing and movement from both teams."

Hearts 2-3 ICT FC 23rd February 2013
Caley Jags get their first win in seven games after their win at Tynecastle. Garry Warren put the side into the lead on 15 mins when he nodded in, past Jamie MacDonald, from an Aaron Doran free-kick. Hearts drew level 10 mins into the second half when Jason Holt's drive blasted past Ryan Esson. On 61 mins Caley Jags were ahead again after Billy McKay headed in at the back post. Andy Webster brought the sides level again on 74 mins when his shot was deflected in past Esson. Warren claimed all three points for Caley Jags with a bullet header on 77 mins.
Manager Terry Butcher: "I'm happy with the quality my players showed. They had to show it in abundance because Hearts certainly put us under massive pressure... Just delighted for the players and delighted for everybody that's worked so hard because it's been difficult. We've been playing pretty well but not getting the results. We just had to keep going and keep believing. So, we're on a real slump and second in the table - that's not bad! It's nice to win again, that feeling is lovely. We've not had it for a long, long while. Hopefully, we'll get another one on Wednesday."

"... we defended like amateurs."
|
Motherwell 3-0 ICT FC 16th February 2013
Caley Jags came off second best to the Steelmen for the third time this season. Goals came from Michael Higdon on 30 and 56 mins and from Nicky Law on 52 mins.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... There have not been many times we have come up second best against a team and unfortunately it has always been Motherwell. The pivotal moment was the first goal, we defended like amateurs. It gave them a lift and knocked us back. Motherwell were very cute and organised and although we had a lot of possession we couldn't really create anything when we were chasing the game."

|
ICT FC 1-1 Kilmarnock 13th February 2013
Caley Jags should have pulled three points clear of Motherwell, in joint second spot, but were denied in the final minute of this evening match and had to settle for the draw. Caley Jags went ahead on 21 mins when Aaron Doran's cross was netted by Nick Ross from six yards. Despite dominating the game Caley Jags were unable to increase their lead. Kilmarnock snatched a point 90 mins when Borja Perez scored from close range.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... I'm so bitterly disappointed that we've not picked up three points. I think they had one shot and scored from it. I can't believe we haven't won. That's seven games this season where we've conceded late on, it's cost us fourteen points. Some harsh words were said in there, a few things thrown, because at the end of the day that's unacceptable that we've thrown away fourteen points in seven matches... We should be out of sight and a long way ahead of where we are now."

ICT FC 1-3 Celtic 9th February 2013
Caley Jags hold on to second spot despite going down to a makeshift Celtic side. Nick Ross struck first and put Caley Jags ahead on 9 mins. Kris Commons ensured the sides finished the first half level after he beat Ryan Esson on 20 mins. Celtic added to their tally with Rami Gerson and Miku on 48 and 82 mins respectively.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... It was a good test for our players. I am not disappointed with the way we played, I am disappointed with the result and conceding three goals. We have nine matches to go. I am glad we have Celtic out of the way and if we play like that we will win more than we lose."

Kilmarnock 2-0 ICT FC 2nd February 2013
William Hill Scottish Cup 5th Round
Caley Jags were unfortunate to find themselves out of a second cup competition in just over a week. Influential players Richie Foran and Andrew Shinnie were both substituted due to injuries within the first 31 mins. Kilmarnock also lost Cillian Sheridan to injury at the end of the first half. His substitute, Paul Heffernan, was the architect of Caley Jag's downfall scoring both Kilmarnock goals. On 58 mins, he drilled in the opener and on 85 mins deflected in Ross Barbour's shot with a back-heal.
Manager Terry Butcher: "Your captain and most influential player gets taken off in the first half and it was always going to be difficult from there on. I look at their bench and see Pascali, Heffernan and Hay and people like that and our bench is made up of young kids. Our young kids came on and did well and got into the game but it was going to be hard... but, that's the way it goes. It wasn't our day."

ICT FC 1-1 (4-5) Hearts 26th January 2013
Scottish Communities League Cup Semi-Final
Caley Jags were level with Hearts, at Easter Road, after 120 mins but came off second best in the penalty shoot-out. The teams went into the second half level after a no scoring first half. On 49 mins Andrew Shinnie beat keeper Jamie MacDonald to put Caley Jags into the lead. Michael Ngoo levelled for Hearts on 66 mins. Hearts then went down to ten men when Scott Robinson was sent off for a reckless tackle on Owain Tudor Jones. Caley Jags were unable to make their numerical advantage count. The sides were still level after extra time and the match went to penalties to decide a winner. Phillip Roberts' shot went over the bar and into the Caley Jags support allowing Hearts to progress to the final.
Manager Terry Butcher: "We should have won it. We had by far the better chances, great chances. We should have won it in normal time, should have won it in extra time. It's always a lottery when it goes to penalties, and I'm just disappointed for our fans. We should be in the final..."

|
ICT FC 3-0 Aberdeen 19th January 2013
Caley Jags stay firmly in second place in the SPL after beating Aberdeen in their first match of 2013. Aberdeen were contained in the first half with neither side scoring. However, on 53 mins Andrew Shinnie beat Russell Anderson to put Caley Jags ahead. Two goals followed from Billy McKay to ensure a convincing win. The first struck from 12 yards came on 61 mins. This was followed on 78 mins with a strike into the roof of the net.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... The second half performance was tremendous. Good power at the back, but the front four always looked like they could get through Aberdeen. Billy's now scored 20 goals this season so he's had a phenomenal time and there's plenty games to come as well for him to add to that. But it's not about Billy, it's not about Andy Shinnie, it's about the whole team. The whole team's performance in the second half was excellent..."

"... beyond our wildest dreams."
|
St Johnstone 0-0 ICT FC 29th December 2012
After a nil-nil draw with St Johnstone, Caley Jags finish the year second top of the table. They have scored more goals in the league this season than any of the other teams. They are only six points behind the league leaders and the treble is still on!
Manager Terry Butcher: "... That Billy McKay, he's going through a really barren spell at the moment. Two games without a goal! It's a good point for us really. After 26 matches, only two teams have beaten us. The fact is that we are second top of the table at the end of 2012. If you had said in July that this was going to happen, you'd have said "no chance". This is all beyond our wildest dreams."

ICT FC 2-2 St Mirren 26th December 2012
Caley Jags managed to cling on to their second place in the table after a close fought draw with St Mirren. Dougie Imrie put the visitors ahead after only 2 mins when his 20-yard drive beat Antonio Reguero. On 38 mins Andrew Shinnie brought the sides level with his 25-yard shot. The Buddies regained the lead after 55 mins when Steven Thompson headed in from a Gary Teale cross. Caley Jags claimed their share of the points when Richie Foran levelled on 67 mins, with a diving header.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... It was a very open game, more like a basketball match or a table-tennis match where the ball's fizzed from one end to the other. At 2-2 I thought well let's go and win it now and we couldn't quite get that goal. We attacked and pushed men forward and St Mirren just thought let's have a go as well, and they certainly did. Going forward I thought we were sensational at times."

ICT FC 4-1 Dundee 22nd December 2012
Caley Jags returned to second spot in the SPL after a comfortable win over Dundee. Richie Foran was bundled over, in the box, after 12 mins. Billy McKay put Caley Jags into the lead from the resulting penalty. Nicky Riley levelled for Dundee on 19 mins. Owain Tudur Jones regained the lead for Caley Jags on 24 mins with a swerving shot from 24 yards. McKay scored again early in the second half. On 48 mins he was brought down in front of goal, but still managed to knock the ball into the net as he lay on the ground. The final goal came when Andrew Shinnie scored on 70 mins after beating two defenders.
Manager Terry Butcher: ".... I was really worried about today's game because it's one we were probably expected to win, which is very unusual for us. We were third and they are bottom but it doesn't matter where we are because we are still playing an SPL team and they have got quality, and they showed that at times. We had to get the goals and the goals came at the right time for us. It was a good second goal but still never really comfortable... We didn't play with a fluency that we can do. Having said that we have won 4-1 and you think I'm mad because I demand more and I demand better. But it was a good one for us to win because I was concerned about how we would approach the game and go about our work."

"... an amazing match..."
|
Dundee United 4-4 ICT FC 15th December 2012
Caley Jags looked down and out after an opening eight minutes that saw them concede three goals. However, there was more than enough time left to recover the situation and after 86 minutes, and four goals, they were in the lead. In the end, a converted penalty in added time allowed the teams to share the points. A Josh Meekings own-goal put United ahead on 5 mins. A minute later a failed clearance by Graeme Shinnie rebounded off Jon Daly's boot and into the Caley Jags' net. Rudi Skacel followed this with his first goal for United on 8 mins. Billy McKay then went on to score a hat-trick, first heading in following a Shinnie corner on 26 mins. This was followed by his second just one minute later, this time heading in from an Aaron Doran corner. He went on to draw the teams level, when he scored from a penalty, on 62 mins. Caley Jags took the lead on 86 mins after Gary Warren headed in of the post. Richie Forran was judged to have handled the ball in the box into added time. Daly beat Antonio Reguero to conclude the match.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was an amazing match. If you are looking for an advert for the SPL this was it. It was end-to-end stuff with the keepers pulling off some great saves. It could have been 8-8! We're disappointed not to have won the match. If you'd said that eight minutes in it was going to be a draw, I'd have snapped your hand off. It was a rollercoaster ride of match. But a draw is a great result for us. To come back from 3-0 down and take the lead, then have that snatched away. Well, there you go..."

ICT FC 2-1 Ross County 11th December 2012
Scottish Cup 4th Round Replay
Caley Jags managed to get though to the Scottish Cup fifth round after beating Ross County at the second attempt. A foul by Ross Tokely on Josh Meekings resulted in a penalty on 9 mins. Billy McKay scored from the spot. County drew level 4 mins before the break when Iain Vigurs beat Antonio Reguero with a half-volley from 25 yards. McKay clinched it, for Caley Jags, on 54 mins with a curling strike from outside the box.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was a great game to win. I'm just delighted we're through. Ross County put us under a lot of pressure and we certainly didn't get an easy time of it. However, it was a great bit of quality by Billy McKay. It was a goal worthy of winning any game."

ICT FC 3-0 Hibernian 8th December 2012
Caley Jags now sit second in the league, and intend to stay there. They displaced Hibernian by scoring three times and keeping a clean sheet. They also keep their place as top goal scorers in the league. Ross Draper put Caley Jags into the lead on 13 mins when he headed in from a Graeme Shinnie free-kick. Richie Foran extended the lead on 76 mins after heading in from David Raven's cross. Billy McKay scored Caley Jags' third on 87 mins this time from Aaron Doran's cross.
Manager Terry Butcher: "We said we felt we could be a top-three side. People might have thought that was a bit bold but that's what we believe. We enjoy being up there. The boys are relaxed about it now and we aim to stay there..."

Ross County 3-3 ICT FC 1st December 2012
Scottish Cup 4th Round
Caley Jags' Billy McKay volleyed the first half's only goal on 30 mins. Aaron Doran took a free-kick which he angled into the box. The ball was met by Richie Foran who headed the ball back to McKay who's resulting volley from 14 yards went in off the post. On 49 mins Rocco Quinn levelled for County with a 20 yard shot that struck the top corner of the net. McKay had a shot on goal on 74 mins. The ball struck Foran on the face, which was well positioned, for the ball to be deflected past Mark Brown. Iain Vigurs levelled again for County when his shot went in off David Raven on 86 mins. A free-kick taken by Richard Brittain on 93 mins ended in the back of the net putting County ahead for the first time in the match. Moments later Owain Tudor-Jones blasted a shot from 40 yards hoping to level the score again. Brown managed to turn the ball away. Josh Meekings headed the ball, from the resulting corner, into the path of Foran who stuck to ball into the net after a deflection off the knees of Philip Roberts.
Manager Terry Butcher: "We are just delighted to get them back to our place. I'm really happy with that, considering we lost a goal in added time. It was good to go in at half-time in the lead. But they equalised quite quickly in the second half. To be fair to Ross County, they really had a go in the second half. They pinned us back and got the ball forward quickly. They dealt with the scraps and the second balls better than us. .."

Aberdeen 2-3 ICT FC 27th November 2012
Another determined display from Caley Jags left them second in the table at the end of the evening. A cross from Andrew Shinnie on 36 mins was met by Billy McKay who slid the ball past Jamie Langfield. Josh Magennis pulled the Dons level on 45 mins after Johnny Hayes fired the ball across the face of goal. Magennis scored again 5 mins into the second half after he beat Josh Meekings and flicked the ball over Antonio Reguero into the net. On 58 mins Gary Warren ensured the sides were again level after he scored from an Aaron Doran corner. McKay struck again for Caley Jags on 82 mins providing a lead which was successfully defended until full time.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was one of those horrible games where there was no quality football really. The game just opened up. It was more like a basketball game. I'm just delighted we scored more than the opposition. This set of boys are unbelievable, we were nowhere near our best but we still won the match..."

"... a magnificent double..."
|
Celtic 0-1 ICT FC 24th November 2012
Caley Jags bounced back into the top six after a historic win at Celtic Park. The single goal of the match, on 64 mins, was enough for the side to claim their very first league win on Celtic's home turf. Philip Roberts beat both Adam Matthews and Charlie Mulgrew to position himself for a low cross to Billy McKay. McKay was then only required to touch the ball to guide it past Fraser Forster from close range.
Manager Terry Butcher: "The longer the game went on and Celtic hadn't scored, we knew we had a chance and felt we could do something when the game stretched. As far as I could see that was Celtic's strongest team they put out today, which shows respect for us, and we've matched them - which is a magnificent achievement for us. It looked a different team from last week. Today I thought we played very well. The more the game went on the better we looked on the break... It's just a wonderful experience to come to Glasgow twice, beat Rangers and then beat Celtic. It's a magnificent double..."

ICT FC 1-5 Motherwell 18th November 2012
Caley Jags dropped into the bottom six after their unbeaten run came to an end with a comprehensive defeat from Motherwell. Michael Higdon headed in from a Nicky Law cross on 18 mins. Just three minutes later Jamie Murphy volleyed in Motherwell's second. On 46 mins Richie Foran pulled one back for Caley Jags. It should have been game on, but on 52 mins Adam Cummins got Motherwell's third. This was follows by their fourth on 72 mins from Henrik Ojamaa. Their last came on 89 mins from Omar Daley.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was massively disappointing. We just didn't get going from the first whistle. I didn't go mad at the players. In fact, I had a bit of a laugh and a joke with them. They are a great bunch of guys but today it was like a team of strangers turned up. We weren't at the races..."

ICT FC 1-1 Hearts 10th November 2012
Caley Jags maintain their unbeaten run after drawing with Hearts in Inverness. Both teams scored once, but Hearts managed to wait until the final minute of the game before gaining a share of the points. Owain Tudur Jones managed to trip Callum Paterson and Hearts were awarded a penalty on 89 mins. Marius Zaliukas converted from the spot to the delight of the travelling support. On 21 mins Jones had put Caley Jags into the lead when he blasted in his first goal for the club from 25 yards. Caley Jags finished the match having been unbeaten for the last ten games.
Manager Terry Butcher: "Today was more frustration because we've played really well this season. We should've won the game and we had opportunities to get the second goal and didn't. For the fourth or fifth time a team has scored against us in the last five or six minutes of a match and stopped us winning the game... I don't think we dealt with it well today because we looked sluggish and not as fired up as we have been in the past."

|
Rangers 0-3 ICT FC 31st October 2012
Scottish Communities League Cup - QF
Caley Jags pulled off a convincing win at Ibrox to progress to the Scottish Communities League Cup semi-finals for the first time. A through ball from Aaron Doran found Andrew Shinnie on 27 mins. Shinnie then went on to poke the ball past keeper Neil Alexander for the first of the Caley Jags' goals. David Raven won a corner on 59 mins, from which Graeme Shinnie swung the ball in from the right. Gary Warren was allowed to meet the ball in the box and head past Alexander. The third goal came on 79 mins from the penalty spot after Anestis Argyriou brought Andrew Shinnie down. His brother, Graeme, sent Alexander the wrong way and ensured an historic victory for the Caley Jags.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It's pleasing to win, the most pleasing aspect was that it was a good team performance. We're creating history - we've got to enjoy that surely. All our players were up for it, they've looked forward to this match. If you give Aaron Doran space he'll utilise it, he'll expose team and expose space, he's a good passer and a good supplier. He doesn't score many goals but what he does do is create a lot..."

ICT FC 1-1 St Johnstone 27th October 2012
Caley Jags had to share the points this week after a last minute equaliser, headed in by St Johnstone's David Robertson. After a missed penalty on 70 mins, when Andrew Shinnie put the ball well over the cross-bar, it took only four more minutes to break the deadlock. Andrew Shinnine made amends when he got the ball through to Ross Draper. Draper in turn fed the ball though Billy McKay who blasted the ball under keeper Alan Mannus.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was a sucker punch in the end because we did enough to win the game. St Johnstone are a good side. They have had five wins, beaten Celtic and are the second-best team in the country. So it shows how far we've come if we're disappointed."

ICT FC 3-1 Ross County 5th October 2012
Caley Jags pull off back to back wins after defeating Ross County in the SPL's first Highland derby. Ross Draper headed in after 9 mins to put Caley Jags into the lead. This was followed on 28 mins by Andrew Shinnie who scored from 12 yards. County came more into the game in the second half after Iain Vigurs scored from a free kick on 48 mins. However, they were unable to draw level and with Arron Dorran scoring on 88 mins the home side were assured the win.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was my 100th SPL game in charge here and an absolute cracker. Ross Tokely's early header against his own crossbar seemed to wake everybody up and all of a sudden the game opened up. We got our two goals but it is becoming a strange scoreline for us as Ross County came back into it very well in the second half. They made a right fight of it and are a real danger from set pieces with their great deliveries into the box and a lot of people who can attack the ball, but Antonio Reguero made some good saves and we had other men throwing themselves into blocks and we fought and scrapped and needed the third goal - and what a goal it was."

ICT FC 4-0 Dundee United 29th September 2012
Caley Jags chalked up their first win of the season after putting four goals past a lacklustre Dundee United. Riche Foran scored on 31 mins with an 18 yard strike. He then headed in 4 mins later from a Philip Roberts' cross into the box. Andrew Shinnie made it three on 69 mins, scrambling the ball over the line. Roberts rounded of a fine day for Caley Jags when he scored on 71 mins.
Manager Terry Butcher: "I'm very pleased, especially for the players. They have taken a lot of hassle and crap from people this season who have been writing them off. That performance against Dundee United was the perfect answer. It was a fantastic performance. We didn't start the game particularly well, but after the first goal went in we dominated the game and could have scored even more goals."

"... we were magnificent."

ICT FC 1-1 Aberdeen 15th September 2012
Caley Jags were unfortunate not to take all three points after the Dons' Cammy Smith stuck back on 84 mins. By that time both sides had been reduced to ten men. Owain Tudur Jones was sent off on 55 mins after a challenge on Ryan Fraser. He was followed by Russell Anderson 10 mins later after he had taken down Shane Sutherland in the penalty box. Richie Foran then put Caley Jags into the lead from the resulting spot-kick.
Manager Terry Butcher: "... We should have won the game, but the referee has not given a penalty for a foul on Aaron Doran. It was a great chance to go two up and the referee doesn't give it. He says my player scuffed his shot and fell over. Anyone on this planet will have seen that as a penalty. A Martian would have seen it was a penalty. I thought we were magnificent."

ICT FC 2-4 Celtic 25th August 2012
A couple of late goals from Ross Draper were not enough to overcome Celtic, but did improve Caley Jags' goal difference. Celtic took the lead early in the match when Victor Wanyama headed in from an Adam Matthews' corner after only 4 mins. Tony Watt doubled the lead on 25 mins. Celtic continued to control the game in the second half and were rewarded with their third goal, this time from Charlie Mulgrew, on 48 mins. Watt went on to get his second of the match on 64 mins. Draper managed to pull back two for Caley Jags on 82 mins and 87 mins.
Manager Terry Butcher: "Celtic caught us on a very bad day. We made it a good day for them. We shot ourselves in the foot. We never got started. We just didn't pass the ball or move as we can do but I am pleased we got two goals back..."

"... beyond our wildest dreams..."

Hearts 2-2 ICT FC 18th August 2012
Caley Jags fought back to claimed a point against Hearts despite going down to ten men. Arvydas Novikovas, following a Darren Barr pass, struck first to put Hearts ahead after 15 mins. Ryan Esson clashed with Marius Zaliukas enabling John Sutton to score from the resulting penalty on 40 mins. Richie Foran was sent off at the end of the first half, during added time, after a challenge on Ryan McGowan. Caley Jags fought back during the second half and were rewarded on 58 mins when Andrew Shinnie scored from the spot after Callum Paterson had brought down Graeme Shinnie. Connor Pepper scooped the ball into the back of the net, on 90+3 mins, to secure a point for Caley Jags after Graeme Shinnie sent the ball across the face of the goal.
Manager Terry Butcher: "To get the equaliser with virtually the last kick of the ball was beyond our wildest dreams. He's (Conor Pepper) on peanuts at the club - and it's a fairytale for him to get the equaliser with the last kick... Full credit to the players, they've got hearts as big as buckets and they got the point."

ICT FC 1-1 Kilmarnock 11th August 2012
Caley Jags still await their first win of the season after drawing with Kilmarnock. They made a promising start after Andrew Shinnie scored the opener on 8 mins. Manuel Pascali headed in the equaliser on 45 mins. Caley Jags finished with ten men after Owain Tudur Jones was sent off on 78 mins.
Manager Terry Butcher: "At this stage last year, we didn't have any points on the board. This time around, we have managed to get two points from two games and have played some really nice football as well. I think we've made good progress in the last 12 months, I'm very pleased with what we've got."

"... a unique, exciting league."

St Mirren 2-2 ICT FC 4th August 2012
Caley Jags visited St Mirren Park for their first match of the new season. The first goal came on 32 mins when the home side's Lewis Guy scored from a Paul McGowan through ball. Nick Ross drew the sides level on 70 mins. Caley jags then took the lead 6 mins later when Billy McKay beat keeper Craig Samson. St Mirren went on to claim a share of the points when Darren McGregor scored in added time.
Manager Terry Butcher: "It was a culture shock for some of my new players. A few of them at the end were saying, 'Wow'. They think it's pretty easy to come up here after playing in League One or Two in England. But it's not – this is a unique, exciting league."
