Season 2007-2008
"... the game had everything... "

ICT FC 3-4 Aberdeen 29th March 2008
Aberdeen managed to keep their unbeaten record against Caley Jags after scoring in extra time. Caley Jags started strongly but it was the on-loan Birmingham player Sone Aluko who put Aberdeen into the lead. After only 7 mins he shot low past Michael Fraser. Caley Jags came back and managed to equalise on 21 mins after a Russell Duncan free kick was headed into his own net by Dave Bus. Caley Jags pushed on and took the lead on 40 mins when Duncan scored from 25 yards. Aberdeen replied just before half time when Barry Nicholson headed home a Ricky Foster cross. Caley Jags dropped to ten men for the second half after Russell Duncan received his second yellow card of the day. It was on 52 mins that Aberdeen took the lead again. This time Lee Miller headed in from a Nicholson corner. Again, Caley Jags drew level when on 57 mins Roy McBain scored from a Don Cowie cross. True to form Aberdeen picked up all the points in the final moments of extra time when Chris Maguire scored the Don’s fourth of the day.
Overall Craig Brewster could not fault the Caley Jags' performance: "... all in all I was delighted with the performace today. That's what I talk about... work-rate and effort and enthusiasm from my players... I think they showed everything today. I think the game had everything. It had good football, incident, sending-offs, seven goals. It's just a pity that we had fewer goals than Aberdeen."
Jimmy Calderwood acknowledged that Russell Duncan's red card was the turning point in their game: " We heard at half-time that Russell Duncan had been sent off and that galvanises teams... we had to win and we've done it... we're still in the melting pot (for a top six finish)".

"... a good solid performance..."
|
Aberdeen 1-0 ICT FC 2nd January 2008
Caley Jags had not beaten Aberdeen in any of their previous encounters. They have been close a number of times in the past with the Don’s denying defeat in the final seconds of the game. Having won six of their last seven games Caley Jags were upbeat and determined to take the points from Aberdeen. After a close game it looked like ending in a draw. Unfortunately for Caley Jags the deadlock was broken on 83 mins. Ross Tokely barged into Lee Miller in the box. The resulting penalty was drilled home by Barry Nicholson. The Don’s record against Caley Jags remains unbroken.
Craig Brewster was disapointed with the result but pleased with the team's performance: "I am very disappointed with the result after another decent performance here at Pittodrie... we were very solid in every department but Lee Miller has done well and got himself in an area and the referee has given a penalty... we were certainly the better side in the second half again but it is Aberdeen who take the points... I can only praise my players for a good solid performance in what was a disappointing result."
Jimmy Calderwood was satisfied with the Don's performance: "It's always tough to play well in difficult conditions... we were missing six players, so under those circumstances it's a very pleasing result.. the quality of the game dropped after a good start, and we can definitely play better... overall, I have to be satisfied with a win against a team that has been playing well recently."

"... Aberdeen won't score three easier goals..."
|
Aberdeen 4-1 ICT FC 31st October 2007
Serious defensive errors led to Caley Jags’ exit from the CIS Cup. Only 10 mins into the game and Barry Nicholson scored from the spot after a foul by Richard Hastings on Derek Young. Then on 21 min Nicholson scored from a second penalty after Stuart McCaffrey brought down Lee Miller. Miller went on to score Aberdeen’s third goal after Michael Fraser failed to clear a Grant Munro back-pass. Caley Jags pulled one back after 68 min when Graham Bayne finished after Dennis Wyness dispossessed Zander Diamond. Finally on 78 mins Nicholson made it a hat-trick when he scored from close range.
Craig Brewster said after the match: "We certainly made it difficult for ourselves this evening, Aberdeen won't score three easier goals than the first three they scored tonight, two penalties and an easy third goal. It is very hard to take losing the game 4-1 when you consider how the game has went in the second half. I thought we were excellent in the second half. "

"...we didn't play well..."
|
ICT FC 1-2 Aberdeen 21st October 2007
Aberdeen extended their unbeaten record against Caley Jags. They were first to score when on 7 mins Derek Young ran with the ball from inside his own half, into the Caley Jags penalty area, and blasted it under keeper Zbigniew Malkowski. Caley Jags improved their performance during the second half and were rewarded on 57 mins. Dennis Wyness headed home his 100th goal for the club. The good work was undone however when an unlucky Ross Tokely scored an own goal just four minutes later.
Craig Brewster was disappointed with the first half performance: "We came into the match and were excellent in the second half and I can't believe we didn't get anything from the game... but we didn't play well in the opening stages and that is what was disappointing for me."

".We are all gutted... "
|
Aberdeen 1-1 ICT FC 13th January 2007
For the second time this season Caley Jags were denied three points by Steve Lovell in the final seconds of extra time. Despite dominating the game for long periods it was not until the 86th minutes that the Caley Jags goal arrived. John Rankin swept the ball home from a Graham Bayne pass. Then, in the last seconds of the 3 minutes extra time Lovell lobbed the ball over Mark Brown to ensure Aberdeen had a share of the points.
A very disappointed Charlie Christie said: "We are all gutted that we are only going away from Pittodrie with only a point, which really does show the strides we have taken... but we fully deserved to win that game."Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood was happy with Lovell's performance,: "We looked down and out, but Steve has saved us again and it could be a massive goal come the end of the season."

"... I felt Inverness deserved to win... "
|
ICT FC 1-1 Aberdeen 6th November 2006
Caley Jags
go eight games unbeaten as Aberdeen manage to pull back a draw on the 90th minute. A draw that denied Caley Jags the opportunity to join second place Hearts on 21 points. Hard working Graham Bayne had put Caley Jags in front on 78 mins with his fifth goal of the season. His diving header met a precision cross into the box by Roy McBain. However, it was in the last minute of full time that Aberdeen equalized when substitute Steve Lovell knocked in a goal bound Lee Miller header.
Caley Jags manager Charlie Christie said: "Our final pass was poor in the first half and it was something we talked about at half-time.... Last season, we might have sat back and settled for a draw but we looked the more likely to open the scoring. Games between the clubs are so tight... My man of the match by a mile... Graham Bayne. "Aberdeen manager Jimmy Calderwood said "I was disappointed, especially after we had done so well against a very good Hibs side last week... we were a lucky team to get a point... I felt Inverness deserved to win tonight..."

"... I've never seen us dominate Aberdeen so much at Pittodrie..."
|
Aberdeen 1-1 ICT FC 5th August 2006
Since arriving in the SPL, Caley Jags have not beaten Aberdeen. This game did not change that situation. Aberdeen went ahead in the first half. Sustained effort by Caley Jags late in the second half was rewarded with a Barry Wilson equalizer. After the game Charlie Christie said "I've never seen us dominate Aberdeen so much at Pittodrie as we did in the second half. It took a break to equalize - but a deserved break, unquestionably.".
