"... we started poorly again..."
|
ICT FC 0-3 Motherwell 10th November 2007
A day best forgotten for Caley Jags. Another defeat, this time conceding three goals and having two players sent off. Motherwell scored after 15 mins following a corner when David Clarkson was left unmarked at the back post. Clarkson got his second on 53 mins. Motherwell’s third came 3 mins from the end when Michael Fraser was nutmegged by Darren Smith. Graham Bayne was sent off after 51 mins and Ross Tokely after 62 mins.
Craig Brewster commenting after the match: "I thought we started poorly again... but for ten minutes before half-time I thought we came into the game and dictated those ten minutes... and then with Graham getting sent off it went out the window... I thought with nine men we did ok... we contained them until the third goal...."

"it's really disappointing"
|
Motherwell 2-1 ICT FC 11th August 2007
Caley Jags journeyed to Motherwell for their first away match of the new season. Last week's missing passion turned up and after a very close game Ross Tokely broke the deadlock on 82 minutes when he netted from a Don Cowie free kick. The Steelmen broke through the Caley Jags defense on a number of occasions over the 90 minutes, but were denied due to fine saves from Michael Fraser. However, the Caley Jags' lead only lasted three minutes before Phil O'Donnell headed home the equalizer. Motherwell went on to claim all three points when, on 90 minutes, sub Ross McCormack scored from the spot.
Charlie Christie was satisfied with the improvement in the teams performance since last week. However, he was disappointed with the performance during the last five minutes of play: "When you score a goal late in the game, you expect to defend it... it's a challenge to see the game out, and we didn't manage to do that today, so it's really disappointing."
Motherwell boss Mark McGhee acknowledged that the teams were fairly evenly matched today: "Inverness will be very disappointed to have lost this game... had they won, they would have stolen it the way we've stolen it, to a degree."

Season 2006-2007
"... that was very pleasing..."
|
ICT FC 2-0 Motherwell 21st April 2007
It was a comfortable win for Caley Jags this week. Two goals in the first half by Craig Dargo was enough to secure the points. On 14 minutes Dargo blasted a shot from 20 yards. It deflected of Danny Murphy to sail past his keeper, Graeme Smith. Dargo then added to the score on 45 minutes. Strike partner Graham Bayne headed the ball down after a free-kick by Stuart McCaffrey, this was pick up by Dargo and slotted past Smith.
After today's win Charlie Christie said: "I feel we had the better appetite and drive today especially in the first half... we showed the same application against Falkirk recently but the difference today was that we got the two goals when we were on top... that was very pleasing and also justified... "
Motherwell manager Maurice Malpas was far from impressed with his side's performance: "I have to apologise to the fans, it's a long distance to come for a performance like that... It's the worst performance since I came to the club. I was disgusted by it. We were insipid, we had no urgency at all."

"... we were poor in the first half .... "
|
Motherwell 1-0 ICT FC 17th February 2007
Caley Jags have not won away from home since they beat Rangers last October. This time the sucker punch came just before half time when Scott McDonald headed home the winner for Motherwell. After a poor first half, for Caley Jags, the team came out after the break and took the game to Motherwell. Good opportunities fell to Rory McAllister and Markus Paatelainen but these were not converted to goals.
Charlie Christie said, "We were poor in the first half but merited at least a point on our second-half performance.."
Maurice Malpas said, "... it wasn't a great spectacle but it doesn't matter because it's a great win..."

"... we need to be doing more in front of goal... "
|
ICT FC 0-1 Motherwell 2nd December 2006
Caley Jags now go four games without scoring. Until the 90th minute it looked like they would share the points with a no score draw. However, just before extra time Darren Dods was booked for the second time during the match and was sent off. He had brought down Scott McDonald inside the box. Richie Foran converted the penalty and secured the three points for Motherwell.
Disappointed Caley Jags' manager Charlie Christie said: "It's just not happening for us at the moment and we are unable to test goalkeepers enough and we need to be doing more in front of goal."Maurice Malpas said "It was good to add to last week's win but it was never a classic today and I though it was going to end 0-0 but we got the break in the end."

"... I thought we looked threatening at every corner."
|
Motherwell 1-4 ICT FC 9th September 2006
Ross Tokely scored after 25 minutes from a header, after a poor clearance from Motherwell goalkeeper Graeme Smith. Three minutes into the second half, Barry Wilson won the ball from Quinn and squared to Craig Dargo strategically placed in the box. His shot from ten yards out was unstoppable. Motherwell eventually replied when Keith Lasley's free-kick, on 72 minutes, was met by Scott McDonald's head to direct the ball into the bottom corner of the net. Seven minutes later Grant Munro scored from a Barry Wilson corner. Rory McAllister came on as substitute for Dargo on 83 minutes. McAllister scored Caley Jag's fourth goal of the game four minutes later again from a Barry Wilson corner.
After the game manager Charlie Christie acknowledged that Motherwell had been threatening at times, "It was a great result although the score flattered us." He added: "It is important to have four different players get on the scoresheet too, because it is better than relying on just one or two players as we did last season a bit with Craig Dargo." Reflecting on the teams preparation for the game Christie said: "But I thought we looked threatening at every corner. We have worked on our set-pieces and changed them a little bit and it has paid off."
