Season 2007-2008

"... we were very comfortable today... "

ICT FC 1-1 Dundee United 16th February 2008

Caley Jags pick up another point after pulling back level with visitors Dundee United. There were no goals in the first half after both teams cancelled each other out. Changes to both teams during the second half resulted in new attacking options. Noel Hunt came on at half time for United. His low cross on 67 mins was netted by Prince Buaben. Then on 80 mins Markus Paatelainen came on for the Caley Jags. Four minutes later Roy McBain got the ball through to Paatelainen who fired into the roof of the net to level the score.

Craig Brewster saw his team match United today, an improved performace compared to the last time the teams met in Inverness: "I thought we were very comfortable today without that final killer pass in the opposition's box, it was either hurried or too short.  We made a couple of changes and got ourselves back into the game through Markus... I was delighted for him to get the goal.  He will gain confidence from that today.

Craig Levein acknowledged that a draw was a fair result on the day: "Lots of teams come here and get nothing, but we have a fair bit of strength in depth with players coming back into the squad. It was unfortunate to concede the equaliser, but overall, I think things are looking good for us at present."

"... we were excellent..."

Dundee United 0-1 ICT FC 1st December 2007

Caley Jags moved further up the table as they take three points from United while St Mirren are thumped by Falkirk. A much improved Caley Jags defence ensured a clean sheet despite the sustained onslaught from Dundee United following Ian Black’s goal on 19 mins. This was only the second goal United have conceded at home this season.

Manager Craig Brewster was satisfied with the performance of the whole team today: "In the first-half we were excellent and we really had to compete... second-half we had to dig in as they threw a lot of balls forward to hit big Lee Wilkie... it was a really big result today against a team going really well... it's up to us to catch the teams above us."

Craig Levine was disapointed with United's performance: "... I'd be looking to win this match at home... we just had too many players off the boil today and too many out of position... on another day with the chances we had we still could've won the match... we had a poor performance."

Caley Jags reserves first scored on 27 minutes when Phil McGuire netted from a Richie Hart cut back into the box. Rory McAllister doubled the score on 30 minutes with a volley past the United keeper. It was only another 3 minutes before Caley Jags scored their third when Dean McDonald blasted the ball into the roof of the net. Dean scored his second of the day right at the end of the first half. David Goodwillie replied for Dundee United on 51 minutes. Jonny Russell made it 2 for United 73 minutes. The fifth and final goal for Caley Jags came from John Rankin when he scored in off the post.

"a real body blow"

ICT FC 0-3 Dundee United 25th August 2007

After a very good first half which ended 0-0, Dundee United started the second with greater determination to take the points from this game. Their efforts were rewarded on 47 minutes when Sean Dillon's cross ended up in the back of the net. A further two goals resulted from Barry Robson's penalty kicks on 58 and 81 minutes. Not a happy day for Caley Jags supporters with some booing at the end from the singing section. The United supporters, although not large in number, were the most vocal and urged their team on far more effectively than the largely silent home support.

Commenting on the game, Donald Park said: "At the start of the second half we get a real body blow with the goal that we lose and because of the style of the goal it has knocked the stuffing out of us....  the second half was very disappointing although the first half was good... but at the end of the day it was the second half that counted."

Dundee United's Craig Levein acknowledged Caley Jags' dominance in the first half: "We were so far behind Inverness it was unbelievable and we were lucky the score was 0-0... In the second half we were miles better though and that is why we won the game."

Season 2006-2007

"... it was a great header..."

Dundee United 1-1 ICT FC 28th April 2007

Certainly a game of two halves, the first half was dominated by Dundee United, the second by Caley Jags. United's early efforts were rewarded towards the end of the first half when on 41 minutes David Robertson headed home a Noel Hunt cross. Caley Jags started the second have with more urgency. Graham Bayne replied on 58 minutes when he headed in a Richie Hart free kick.

After the match Donald Park, Caley Jags assistant head coatch said: "...I think our second-half performance we might just have deserved the draw and no more... It was a great header from Graham Bayne, great delivery from Richie Hart... as soon as he got in front of the defender it was a goal."

United's manager Craig Levein said: "I'm frustrated and disappointed we didn't win the match... the game should have been over at half-time and the second half should have been a chance to relax, play some good football and entertain our fans..."

"we got a break"

ICT FC 1-0 Dundee United 3rd March 2007

It's not unusual to see a goal in the last second of a Caley Jags game. However it's nice not to be on the receiving end this time. As extra time was drawing to a conclusion Barry Wilson had his penultimate shot on goal. It was saved by Derek Stillie, however Graham Bayne knocked the rebound onto Markus Paatelainen, who passed it back to Wilson. This time the shot was not stopped by Stillie, and Caley Jags pick up three points. This puts them back up to seventh place in the table.

Charlie Christie was pleased, for the team, after today's late win, "For the first 25 minutes we were very flat and in the second half we didn't perform very well either... we got a break late on... there is absolutely no doubt that these boys deserve it."

Craig Levein said, "... we failed to take them and were caught at the end by a sucker punch. We were just lacking a killer touch,"

"... it was a well deserved win....  "

ICT FC 1-0 Dundee United 3rd February 2007

Caley Jags now progress to the next round of the Tennent's Scottish Cup after a victory over Dundee United. The only goal of the game came on 15 mins when a defensive header by Lee Wilkie fell to Russell Duncan who volleyed in from 25 yards. Highlights of the game included fine displays of footwork from Michael Fraser and Ross Tokley and shots on goal by Barry Wilson and Rory McAllister. However, even with a fight back by United in the final 15 mins of the game no further goals were added to the score.

After the match Charlie Christie said, "I thought it was a well deserved win... It was a special strike, he (Russell Duncan) doesn't get very many goals but when he does score they tend to be very good finishes."Craig Levein said, "I can't fault our effort, but we lacked quality. Our biggest problem was that our most creative players didn't perform. As a team we never played cohesively."

"... I expect more at this level...  "

Dundee United 3-1 ICT FC 9th December 2006

Caley Jags went into the lead on 15 minutes when Barry Wilson scored from a well executed free kick on the edge of the box, which left keeper Derek Stillie rooted to the spot. United equalised on 22 minutes with a Noel Hunt goal. Hunt scored a second on 65 minutes. David Roberson scored United's third goal on 78 minutes following a penetrating run and cut back by Hunt.

Caley Jags' manager Charlie Christie, disappointed for the second week on the trot, said: "The endeavour is not lacking. But, there is more to football than that and sometimes the guys were just happy to get the ball out of the area. I expect more at this level. It is time to stand up and be counted."United striker Noel Hunt said, " I should have had a hat-trick but Mark Brown had a great save from my header in the first half."

"... Caley are a good side who are difficult to break down."

ICT FC 0-0 Dundee United 16th September 2006

Caley Jags dominated the first half but were unable to capitalise. United had an improved second half when they caused more problems for the home team. Caley Jags continue to fail to match their away form at home.

Charlie Christie: "... we had three great chances in the first half... The frustrating thing was that on too many occasions we played a safe ball instead of a decisive pass." Craig Brewster: "... But there were not many clear-cut chances because Caley are a good side who are difficult to break down."
