"... a big win for us today..."
|
ICT FC 3-2 Celtic 16th December 2007
For the second time this season Caley Jags met Celtic and again five goals are scored. Unlike the previous meeting Caley Jags came away with the three points. They made a strong start, but poor defending allowed Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink to score on 24 and 26 mins. Then on 42mins Caley Jags pulled one back when John Rankin scored from the spot after Marius Niculae was impeded by Steven Pressley. The second half saw Caley Jags start with renewed vigour. They were rewarded on 57 mins when David Proctor headed home the equaliser. Four minutes later Don Cowie put the home side ahead when he picked up a poorly defended high ball from Richard Hastings to hit it home past Mark Brown. Proctor was sent off on 68 mins. Ten man Caley Jags held on to the lead despite continuous pressure from Celtic. The resulting three points allowed Caley Jags to climb above Hearts in the table.
Manager Craig Brewster praised the team's performance: " It was a big win for us today especially under the circumstances of going two goals down. You have to give the players a lot of credit, I thought they were exceptional in the second half... I wanted them to put the Celtic back four under pressure in the second half, we did that and got the rewards..."
Gordon Strachan felt hard done by: "We had all the possession... all the chances... and all the decisions going against us... we feel a bit hard done by. They took their chances, but we should have won that game quite easily."

Celtic A 7-1 ICT FC A 25th September 2007
This reserves match was held at the Excelsior Stadium, Airdrie. With Caley Jags playing Gretna in a CIS Insurance Cup tie this evening many of the usual reserve team were missing. Richie Hart was the only first team player fielded. Caley Jags went ahead after 9 mins. After the ball was handled in the box Hart scored from the resulting penalty. Although the Celtic team had the majority of the possession during the first half the Caley Jags managed to hold onto their lead until the break. Celtic started the second half with renewed vigour. Within 4 mins they were 2-1 up. Chris Killen scored 2 mins into the second half. This was followed on 49 mins by a goal from Jim O’Brien. O’Brien scored a second on 57 mins. Two mins later Darren O’Dea made it four. Jiri Jarosik added to the Celtic total on 64 mins. Killen scored his second of the afternoon on 77 mins. Paul McGowan made it 7-1 on 89 mins.

"...we will always have a go..."
|
Celtic 5-0 ICT FC 15th September 2007
Caley Jags approached this match with their usual positive attitude and had a number of on target opportunities throughout the game. Unfortunately on form Celtic were the ones with the skill and experience to consistently finish their attacking moves. In brief, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored on 15 mins, Massimo Donati made it two, 4 mins before the end of the first half. Caley Jags continued to fight back but it was Shunsuke Nakamura who scored from a spectacular 25 yarder on 56 minutes. Vennegoor of Hesselink then scored his second on 59 mins. Finally an own goal from Phil McGuire on 70 mins made it 5-0 for Celtic. However, honorable mentions to Dennis Wyness, Phil McGuire, Barry Wilson, and Marius Niculae who all had scoring chances. In the coming weeks when Caley Jags' luck improves, and they start scoring, they will still need to have a far tighter defence or it may not be enough to accumulate the points required.
Although heavily defeated, Craig Brewster was upbeat: "I don't know many teams who come to Celtic Park, play the way we did and create as many chances... we will always have a go... I have total confidence in the team."
Gordon Stachan acknowledged Caley Jags' contribution to an entertaining afternoon: "The enterprise Inverness showed surprised us. For a team at the bottom of the league to have their central midfielders trying to break beyond their strikers was a surprise for our defenders who are used to having opposition midfielders in front of them. They tried to get in behind us and had a smashing game."

"I cannot believe it!"
|
ICT FC 1-2 Celtic 25th February 2007
A historic third defeat of Celtic by Caley Jags, in the Scottish Cup, was thwarted by two late goals. Celtic put pressure on from the start, however it was Caley Jags' Graham Bayne who opened the scoring on 18 minutes. Ian Black started the build up picking out Barry Wilson who went on to cross to Bayne who fired in from six yards. Caley Jags managed to keep their lead until the 89th minute when Steven Pressley headed in to level the game. Caley Jags were then denied a replay at Parkhead when Kenny Miller fired home from 20 yards.
After the match a very disappointed Charlie Christie said, "I cannot believe it. It a real sore one to take and the players are near to tears in the dressing-room. They put so much into the game and deserved so much more... You can't legislate for one great leap, one great header and a tremendous finish by Kenny Miller to win it."
Gordon Strachan confessed, "I had to make changes near the end, some of them desperate... desperate times call for desperate measures. With five minutes to go, and after the equalizer, I was happy to settle for the draw and a replay.... but the players said "no" and I'm just glad they are on my side."

"We matched the league champions .... "
|
ICT FC 1-2 Celtic 28th January 2007
In another fine display Caley Jags matched the league leaders for 90 minutes. Then, not for the first time this season an extra time goal robbed them of a share of the points. Celtic opened the scoring on 37 mins when Derek Riordan tapped in a rebound from the crossbar. Then on 57 mins Graham Bayne headed in a Grant Munro cross. Celtic won the game in the final seconds of extra time when Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink took advantage of a goalmouth skirmish and blasted the ball past Michael Fraser.
Charlie Christie reflecting on the game said "There are a huge amount of positives to take. We matched the league champions face to face, toe to toe... But Celtic are champions and, to be fair, can go back to front, they have got that aerial threat." Celtic manager Gordon Strachan said "We had to handle an exuberant, frantic Inverness side and we handled it... If we're lucky, we're lucky. But our goalie didn't have too many saves to make."

"... Inverness never made it easy... "
|
Celtic 3-0 ICT FC 18th November 2006
Caley Jags made a fine start at Parkhead, but Celtic's winning streak continued. Caleyjags became the last of the SPL teams to be beaten as Celtic make it eleven wins out of their last eleven games. Under pressure from Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, Darren Dods put the ball over the line to score an own goal on 43 mins. Vennegoor of Hesselink then scored on 72 mins, from 12 yards, after collecting a cross from Paul Telfer. Celtic's third and final goal came on 85 mins when Jiri Jarosik headed home a Shaun Maloney corner.
Caley Jags manager Charlie Christie said: "I thought 3-0 was hash but we were up against the best team in the country. However, I was pleased with the chances we created and it was going well until Celtic took the lead just before the break. "Celtic manager Gordon Strachan was delighted with his team's performance, "A lot of things pleased me. Zurawski was excellent and Nakamura was brilliant. Inverness never made it easy but I can now think about Manchester United "

"... it's an excellent point for a club of our size against one of the Old Firm."
|
ICT FC 1-1 Celtic 20th August 2006
Caley Jags went behind after 26 minutes from a Pearson goal. The home team's performance was much improved in the second half. Their efforts were rewarded by the equalizer on 80 minutes by Grant Munro. After the game manager Charlie Christie said "The second-half was more like us really and to bounce back against a team of Celtic's caliber speaks volumes for my players... It's an excellent point for a club of our size against one of the Old Firm."
