ICT FC 0-1 Falkirk 23rd May 2009

Caley Jags finish the season at the bottom of the table. A draw would have been enough to prevent the drop. Caley Jags opened comfortably enough and took control of the game. As early as 11 mins Richie Foran homed in on the Falkirk goal and shot low from 15 yards only to have it saved by keeper Dani Mallo. However, the turning point came on 39 mins when Ross Tokely was sent off for taking down Steve Lovell as he homed in on goal. On 68 mins Jackie McNamara managed to get the ball across the Caley Jags goal mouth. It was met by substitute Michael Higdon who managed to knock it past Michael Fraser.

Manager Terry Butcher: "To lose in the manner we did in the last game is hard to take...I feel so sorry for the fans, players and everyone at the club because they've given everything today.... Although it's hard to look beyond this afternoon, the work starts now in bouncing back next year."

Falkirk manager John Hughes: "I'm just delighted for the players as they've been through the mire this year... What a fantastic season it's been: staying in the SPL... semi-final of the CIS Cup and a Scottish Cup final to look forward to. It's not too bad."

Kilmarnock 1-0 ICT FC 16th May 2009

Caley Jags had the opportunity to make themselves safe from the drop today by beating Kilmarnock. Killie had other ideas and picked up all the points through a Kevin Kyle goal on 79 mins. Early chances fell to Richie Foran, Brian Kerr and Filipe Morais but half time was reached with neither side scoring. In the second half both Lionel Djebi-Zadi and Morais failed to convert their opportunities. Then with just 12 mins to go, a Garry Hay cross was met by Kyle who knocked the ball home at the back post.

Manager Terry Butcher: "... We dominated the first half and I thought we deserved to go in ahead, but it wasn't to be. Kilmarnock then pegged us back... but it's still in our own hands and if we avoid defeat next week against Falkirk then we stay up. "

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies: "There were a lot of nerves today and Inverness have been stuffy opponents for us this season. We were much better in the second half and we could've killed them off when they were pushing forward. Getting seven points from the last nine has been a fabulous achievement. We knew with three games at home that it was in our own hands...”

"... magnificent... "

Motherwell 2-2 ICT FC 13th May 2009

It was the hosts who first took the lead in this mid-week encounter. A corner on 26 mins was met by defender Brian McLean who headed past Michael Fraser. The reply came 14 mins later when Dougie Imrie worked his way behind the Motherwell defence and passed back to Filipe Morais who drilled home. Imrie got the Caley Jags ahead on 56 mins when he netted from a Lionel Djebi-Zadi cross. However, the points had to be shared when John Sutton got the equaliser for the Steelmen 11 mins from the end.

Manager Terry Butcher: "... Lots of positive things came out of the game the only negative thing is that we didn't get three points. We've edged towards survival very well. The boys have been magnificent, they have been absolute heroes."

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee:: "... We changed our shape, made a couple of substitutions and that brought us an equaliser. I think we didn't deserve to lose..."

ICT FC 1-1 Hamilton Academical 10th May 2009

Hamilton Accies remained unbeaten by Caley Jags this season when they come from behind, in their latest meeting, for a share of the points. Caley Jags looked most likely to take the lead during the first half, but after 45 mins neither side managed to score. It only took 2 mins of the second half for Caley Jags to finally pull ahead. Filipe Morais flicked the ball over his head, behind the defence, where it was met by Richie Foran who volleyed the ball into the net from 15 yards. Hamilton leveled on 63 mins when Brian Easton's corner was met by Martin Canning who headed home from 8 yards.

Manager Terry Butcher: "... We didn't have enough creativity, particularly in wider areas and enough patience it's disappointing but on the other hand that's three games unbeaten for us, we've taken five points out of nine... A point is good, a defeat is a nightmare, you want three points and you sort of feel like an anti climax particularly under circumstances like today..."

Hamilton manager Billy Reid: "... We're obviously happy with the point but disappointed with the way we played. But it's a point nearer to safety... The sending-off was really, really harsh... He`s gutted... James is a committed player, he's not a dirty player. When I played years ago, that would never have been a sending-off."

St Mirren 1-2 ICT FC 2nd May 2009

Another welcome three points were won six minutes from the end when Ross Tokely regained the Caley Jags’ lead. It was a Grant Munro headed goal on 12 mins that first put Caley Jags in the lead. St Mirren pulled level on 70 mins when Billy Mehmet's low cross was turned in at the near post by Jim Hamilton. An Ian Black corner, on 84 mins, lead to Tokely's headed attempt on goal. The ball was intercepted, rebounding back to Tokely who half volleyed it into the net.

Manager Terry Butcher: "St Mirren were pressing men forward late in the game and I think it was something like 2-4-4. They battered us but we held firm... Ross Tokely, in particular, was immense at the back....We said if we could match Falkirk's results then we would stay up. It's going to be tight and there will be another round of games next week."

St Mirren's Gus MacPherson: "... We didn't compete well enough and we didn't pass the ball as well as we've done in recent weeks. We never looked comfortable today. The performance was disappointing, but we looked as though we might get something out of it."

ICT FC 1-1 Hamilton Academical 18th April 2009

Caley Jags picked up another vital point, this time against Hamilton Accies who had beaten them twice already this season. An early goal for Hamilton put Caley Jags on the back foot. However, extra pressure on the Hamilton goal during the second half paid off and the points were shared. James Gibson put Hamilton ahead after 17 mins following an Alex Neil free-kick. Caley Jags reply came on 88 mins when a Richie Foran cross fell to Brian Kerr, who volleyed past Tomas Cerny from the edge of the box.

Manager Terry Butcher: "... We were absolute garbage in first half and I told the players they had to increase the tempo and show more spirit. They scrapped away but we have got to have more patience and calmness with our final ball and we can't afford to play for just 45 minutes..."

Hamilton manager Billy Reid: "Inverness pinned us back in the second half without creating too much and it's taken a deflected goal to get them a point... but I thought we were excellent in the first half, and controlled the game in that period."

Aberdeen 1-0 ICT FC 11th April 2009

Caley Jags dominated the early exchanges. However, Aberdeen came back stronger in the second half and put sustained pressure on the Caley Jags defence. This was rewarded on 79 mins when Gary McDonald headed past Ryan Esson from a Charlie Mulgrew free-kick. Caley Jags remain four points off the bottom of the table while Aberdeen gain a top six finish.

Manager Terry Butcher: " When you've got certain members of the team not performing at the high levels you expect of them then we are going to struggle in the match... to concede from a free-kick with about 12 or 13 minutes to go was disappointing considering we've got so many big men in the team and we'd been defending crosses pretty well."

Aberdeen manager, Jimmy Calderwood: "We had so many chances to win it I thought it was never going to come...Inverness are very stubborn... that's us in the top six again for the sixth year on the trot... it's been a great day for us."

Caley Jags came from behind to pick up all three points and move two places up the table. Andy Dorman scored for St Mirren after 7 mins. Felipe Morais replied twice for Caley Jags on 40 and 47 mins.

Manager Terry Butcher: "... I saw enough of Felipe Morais in two days of training this week to start him... I saw something special in him this week, and he scored two great goals from two difficult positions. The three points are huge for us, but there's still a lot of hard work to do before we're safe."

St Mirren manager, Gus MacPherson: "... We're bitterly disappointed to lose especially after taking the lead... but nothing's decided and we're all still very close together at the bottom of the table... The relegation battle is going to go down to the wire."

Falkirk 4-0 ICT FC 21st Mar 2009

A disappointing day out for Caley Jags as they go down to bottom side Falkirk. Carl Finnigan scored Falkirk's first on 37 mins. The lead was doubled by Mark Stewart on 65 mins. Caley Jags' keeper Ryan Esson was sent off for a foul on Finnigan. The resulting penalty was converted by Scott Arfield on 82 mins. Falkirk's final goal, Finnigan's second of the day came on 90 mins. Falkirk now find themselves only one point behind Caley Jags with a game in hand and a much superior goal difference.

Manager Terry Butcher: "I can have no complaints about the result because Falkirk deserved to win the game. You've got to hold your hands up and just say it was a very bad day at the office for us... It's about how we bounce back now. The players never got to the levels that they had been showing before and we'll have a look at why and make sure that we get back to those levels."

Falkirk manager John Hughes: "... Every one of them, to a man, gave me everything that they had and we got four goals, so that's pleasing. Nothing will get decided on today's performance, I think it will be after the split... I felt the supporters got right behind us so we're pleased about that and I'm pleased to keep a clean sheet."

Kilmarnock fought back and were rewarded on 45 mins when Ross Ford headed into the net. Kilmarnock piled on the pressure during the second half but were unable to pull back the Caley Jags lead.

Manager Terry Butcher: "... It was not the prettiest game and I apologise for the style of football. But in our position you play to your strengths and we need to continue to have a good chance of survival."

Kilmarnock manager, Jim Jefferies: "... We should have been up before Inverness got their first goal. We had two, possibly three, golden chances. We had all the pressure in the second half, but we did not get the breaks."

Manager Terry Butcher: "... I'm disappointed to go out of the cup, particularly with a home draw. I felt we could continue the good progress we had been making but it wasn't to be."

Falkirk's John Hughes: "... I felt we were the better side, especially in the first half. It was a certain penalty, although maybe the sending off was a bit harsh. It wasn't great in the second half but credit to Inverness, they hemmed us in, and we stood up to it."

Motherwell continued their successful run today at the expense of Caley Jags. Their first goal came on 26 mins when John Sutton beat Ryan Esson to slot home. Grant Munro pulled Caley Jags back level on 39 mins following an Ian Black corner. Motherwell regained the lead, and claimed all three points, on 53 mins when Cillian Sheridan blasted the ball into the Caley Jags' goal.

Manager Terry Butcher: "... It was a hard game today but we did put a lot of effort into it however I don't think we did enough to take something out of the game... it's not a good day at the office for us and we have to move on.  There's plenty other games coming up particularly against teams in and around us that are more important for us.  So it was always a game today that I thought was going to be a real test for us and it was."

Motherwell manager Mark McGhee: "There's no easy games in the SPL for any of us, there wasn't much between us today. We managed to get a quality goal to win the game, and it keeps us on a run of nine games unbeaten."

ICT FC 2-0 Hibernian 21st Feb 2009

Caley Jags continued to do well, at home, against Hibernian. Hard work by all team members resulted in a clean sheet and two goals to ensure all three points were collected. Although still bottom of the table, the separation from second bottom Falkirk was reduced to one point. Caley Jags went into the lead on 15 mins when David Proctor put the ball past Hib's keeper Grzegorz Szamotulski from 10 yards after picking up the ball from Eric Odhiambo. This lead was doubled on 63 mins as Richie Foran reacted to Dougie Imrie's rebounded strike on goal to drive the ball into the net.

Manager Terry Butcher: "It was a great three points, just what we needed... We have an excellent back four, who are - excuse the phrase - ugly at the right times... We have shown that we have desire and belief and that's essential..."

Hibs manager Mixu Paatelainen: "We had too many players who felt all they had to do is turn up and things would happen for them... Maybe they thought their talent would carry them through, because the work-rate wasn't good enough, although I must say that is not often the case... All credit to the Inverness players, who were hungry to get on the ball and had the desire to make things happen."

Dundee United 1-1 ICT FC 14th Feb 2009

Caley Jags took on Dundee United in their first away game under manager Terry Butcher. As expected, United pressed Caley Jags hard for the duration of the match. The home side were surprised, however, on 16 mins when Eric Odhiambo headed in a Dougie Imrie cross. Caley jags held onto their lead well into the second half. Caley Jags went down to ten men on 71 mins when Russell Duncan was sent off for taking down Danny Swanson who was racing through on goal. United's sustained pressure was rewarded on 79 mins when Lee Wilkie tapped the ball home from close range.

Manager Terry Butcher: "We had opportunities, but I'm disappointed to lose a goal, as it's the first we've lost in two matches... when you go down to ten men against United, they put you under a lot of pressure... there was a lot of spirit there... we had to dig in really well, but we had one or two chances where we could have nicked it."

United manager Craig Levein: "It was a tough match, and we didn't play particularly well. I thought Inverness worked really hard, as I would expect with Terry recently taking over... it was a bit of a struggle for us all day, but the lads showed a bit of determination to get us back into the match when we were behind..."

Caley Jags achieved their first win under Terry Butcher to go through to the quarter finals of the Homecoming Scottish Cup. An Ian Black cross on 34 mins was met by Pavels Mihadjuks, who headed past Alan Combe to put the home side in front. The win was sealed on 90 mins when Adam Rooney blasted home Caley Jags' second of the day.

Manager Terry Butcher: "The boys have done really well. We said before the game it was chance to get through to the quarter-finals... It was difficult conditions out there and Kilmarnock threw everything at us... they pushed a lot of men forward and put us under pressure... it was nice to hold on... and we're delighted to go through."

Kilmarnock's Jim Jefferies: "The referee pointed to the spot and I thought right away that it was a stonewall penalty. The only thing I can think of is that he got in touch with the linesman and he said it was outside the box... I asked the linesman and he said he couldn't see the line! ICT FC 0-0 Celtic 1st Feb 2009

It was smiles on the home supports' faces as Caley Jags' run of defeats came to an end. It was an excellent team performance and raises hopes for the remainder of the season. A point against the league champions is a rare event, particularly with their ability to score in the dying second of a game. New manager Terry Butcher fielded new signings Richie Foran from the start with Eric Odhiambo coming on as a substitute for the final minutes of the match.

Manager Terry Butcher: "The players have given us everything and I thank them for that because it does give us hope... It's hard to put your finger on it, but there is something here that is a bit special. Hopefully we can take that forward... A point is a bonus obviously but the real bonus is the performance... they came off the pitch as heroes and our boys can be heroes this season."

Gordon Strachan: "It was nothing different from what we have had here before. We got the same type of performance from Inverness... We've tried different teams. I've tried an all-skilful team... the stronger ones... taller ones... but, at this moment in time, we are not getting performances... we didn't play well, especially in the first half."

Hearts 3-2 ICT FC 24th Jan 2009

A moments lapse of concentration, and a hole in defence, saw ten man Caley Jags lose their hard won share of the points on 90 mins. Hearts had gone ahead during the first half when David Obua rose to head past Ryan Esson on 39 mins. Caley Jags pulled level on 56 mins when Pavel Mihadjuks headed home from a Don Cowie free kick. Hearts regained the lead when Obua headed in his second of the day on 79 mins. A Dougie Imrie free-kick on 88 mins, blasted from 25 yards, skidded under the bar alowing Caley Jags to draw level again. All their efforts however were undone moments later after Andy Driver's penetrating run allowed him to cut back to Laryea Kingston who tapped the ball past Esson.

Caley Jags caretaker manager John Docherty: "It was certainly exciting, and got the heart going... We played so well, and once again, we got nothing out of the game for the effort we put in... I thought the lads' effort was unbelievable... their commitment and the way they played football..."

Csaba Lazslo: "It was not a game for people with problems with their heart or blood pressure, but it for me it was an important three points... Inverness played very good tactics... but the most important thing was the spirit from Hearts at the moment... It is not easy to come back three times..."

There was a break this week from league business as Caley Jags played host to Partick Thistle in the fourth round of the Homecoming Scottish Cup. This week's new signings, Thierry Gatheussi, Filipe Morais and Pavels Mihadjuks all made their debut appearances for Caley Jags. After a fairly even opening period the deadlock was broken on 28 mins when Morais blasted a long range shot which deflected past keeper Jonathan Tuffy. Caley Jags' second of the day came on 46 mins when Iain Vigurs struck from within the penalty area having picked up a Don Cowie pass. Ten minutes later Morais scored his second of the day having been fed the ball from an Andy Barrowman header.

Craig Brewster: "It was pleasing to get three goals and we got them at crucial times... Filipe Morais gave us a spark with his pace and his quality on the ball... he certainly lifted the crowd and he lifted the team... "

Gerry Britton (PT Assistant Manager): "Caley mastered the conditions better than we did... they are a strong, physical side and they got the ball forward early to play off scraps... certain aspects of our game were fine, but we're disappointed with the final ball in final third... we didn't create enough chances to get back into the game."

Although it ended up with three goals from Rangers without reply, Caley Jags put on a determined show particularly during the first half. Caley Jags had the best chances during the first 45 minutes but were unable to finish. Rangers came out more determined in the second half and almost immediately Pedro Mendes blasted the ball past Ryan Esson. Goals from Kris Boyd on 81 and 87 mins ensured the three points went to Rangers. For the first time since promotion to the SPL Caley Jags find themselves at the bottom of the table midway through the season.

Craig Brewster: "I thought our performance was excellent in the first half... we were creating chances... and I still don't know why Iain Vigurs one did not go in... then there's a world class finish from a world class player... when you lose a goal like that, it is always going to be difficult, but we battled away for an hour."

Walter Smith: "... they had a couple of good chances... but we had a terrific start to the second half with a great goal from Pedro Mendes and the performance after that was much better... after the goal, Caley had to come at us a bit and that created more opportunities for us."

Craig Brewster: ",,, I was pleased that the players showed character and determination to get a result. You could see that the two strikers were desperate to get on to prove things."

Brian Rice for Falkirk: "We defended well for most of the game. We made one mistake and we were made to pay... Scott Flinders has been excellent since he came into the team, but he was under a lot of pressure in this one with balls being thrown into the box."

Hibernian 1-2 ICT FC 8th Nov 2008

Much improved defending this week frustrated Hibs and ensured a Caley Jags win. On 30 mins Don Cowie got the better of David Van Zanten and blasted home past Hibernian first half keeper Yves Ma-Kalambay. The lead was doubled on 47 mins following a Hibs corner. A breakout by Caley Jags resulted in Dougie Imrie setting up Ian Black, who drove the ball home past substitute keeper Andy McNeil. It then looked like Hibs would pull one back when Richard Hastings brought Colin Nish down in the box. Derek Riordan's spot kick however was saved by Ryan Esson. In the dying seconds of added time Riordan managed to pull one back for Hibs.

Craig Brewster: ",,, I thought it was an excellent performance... the way the players went in about them and closed Hibs down was excellent."

Mixu Paatelainen: "... I thought the goals we conceded were absolute jokes... we got what we asked for... we got big trouble when they scored. "

Rangers 5-0 ICT FC 1st Nov 2008

Poor defending from Caley Jags allowed Rangers to score five goals, without reply, by half time. Nacho Novo was first to strike when Michael Fraser spilled from a Kris Boyd shot on 7 mins. Boyd followed this with a hat trick, the goals on 14, 19 and 28 mins, the last from a penalty. Kenny Miller completed the rout on 45 mins when his volley was deflected into the goal.

Craig Brewster: ",,, No-one wants to be on the end of a heavy defeat. It was an embarrassment in the first 45 minutes when Rangers destroyed us... They just passed it around us, they created opportunities from everywhere and we were just going through the motions. We were forced into mistakes..."

Walter Smith: "We were delighted with the start. We capitalised on one or two errors that Caley made but credit to our own boys, they were quick to the ball and quick to put them under pressure... I've always said that if we get the ball into the box a lot that Kris Boyd would get goals and that's shown to be the case..."

ICT FC 1-2 Motherwell 25th Oct 2008

Caley Jags' poor home record continues as Motherwell pick up all three points at a very wet and windy Tulloch Caledonian Stadium. Both sides got to half time without scoring or conceding a goal. Adam Rooney broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half. As he raced through the Motherwell half of the park, he nutmegged Mark Reynolds and repelled challenges from Steven Hammell and Keith Lasley before hitting the ball low past keeper Graeme Smith. Chris Porter equalised on 69 mins, following a quick one two with John Sutton, drilling the ball low past michael Fraser. A curling free-kick from Bob Malcolm on 83 mins sealed the match for the Steelmen.

Craig Brewster: ",,, I was never really comfortable with Porter and Sutton up front. I thought that they bullied us a wee bit... I don't know where the ref got the free kick from but it was a wonderfully executed one from Bob Malcolm. We tried hard but it wasn't to be."

Mark McGhee: "The substitutions changed the tempo of the game for us and Chris Porter's goal was a terrific finish. Plus it was a marvellous free-kick from Bob Malcolm... We don't have any fear of coming up here and it was the same today."

ICT FC 1-2 Celtic 18th Oct 2008

Caley Jags managed to match Celtic for the first 45 mins. They had an opportunity to go ahead on 36 mins when Garry Wood's shot from within the box was stopped by a diving Artur Boruc's foot. Early in the second half Celtic took the lead. A Lee Naylor cross on 17 mins was met by Scott Brown who knock the ball passed Michael Fraser. Celtic doubled their lead on 64 mins when a Barry Robson cross was headed home by Glenn Loovens. Caley Jags pulled one back on 69 mins. Adam Rooney's header in the Celtic box was met by Garry Wood who blasted the ball from close range past Boruc. Caley Jags continued to press Celtic but were unable to level the score.

Craig Brewster: "I thought we were excellent in the first half. I just thought we were slow to react at the start of the second half. We didn't close Celtic players down quick enough and then we lose the goal by doing that... We had lots of near things in and around their box and I just told the boys at the end that they deserved a lot of credit for the way they played but it was just that 10 minutes at the start of the second half when we were slow to respond."

Gordon Strachan: "... but when did you see a real good Celtic-Inverness game here? I've not seen one yet. I've seen exciting finishes, strange goals, silly tackles, sendings off, near sendings off. I've seen everything but good football... Why? There's some mysteries in this world that can't be solved. We've just got to deal with them..."

Dundee United 2-1 ICT FC 4th Oct 2008

Caley Jags put in a determined show but were unable to get the better of the United defence. Both sides had chances to score during the first half but it was United that went into the second half one goal up. United's John Daly beat Michael Fraser on 40 mins when he headed home a Sean Dillon cross. Their lead was extended on 65 mins when Lee Wilkie headed in off the bar. Wilkie then scored at the other end on 90 mins when a Barry Wilson corner found the net via Wilkie's thigh.

Craig Brewster was happy overall with the Caley Jags' performance: "I was pretty happy with my players, the way they shaped up... Dundee United are big guys and were a handful with balls played into the box... they dominated the first 20 minutes of the second half but we slowly came back into it and had a strong finish..."

Craig Levein said: "We missed a hatful of chances, sometimes because of poor finishing and sometimes because of some great defending and a touch of bad luck... Inverness didn't give us time to play. It was really tight in midfield... but if we hadn't won it would have been an injustice."

ICT FC 3-1 Kilmarnock 27th Sep 2008

This week Caley Jags achieve their first home win of the season, and move to fourth place in the table. Kilmarnock had made a determined start to the match and were rewarded on 4 mins. Michael Fraser came out to collect the ball following a Jamie Hamill free-kick. The ball howerver found its way, via Simon Ford, to Conor Sammon who was left with an easy close range tap in. The Caley Jags response came on 21 mins when Phil McGuire lobbed Alan Combe to level the score. This was followed on 43 mins when Andy Barrowman scored from the penalty spot. Kilmarnock never regained their composure following the penalty allowing Caley Jags to score a third on 81 mins. Ian Black found the space to head home an Iain Vigurs corner.

Craig Brewster was pleased with the team's performance: " I was just pleased at an all-round great team performance... we got the equaliser at the right time and we gained confidence, even when we lost the early goal we knew there was still over eighty minutes to go... once we started moving the ball around they couldn't live with us. "

Kilmarnock manager Jim Jefferies said: "We started the game well and Conor Sammon missed a glorious chance to double our lead... It was night and day compared to the Aberdeen match in mid-week. Maybe they thought today was going to be a doddle and Inverness showed them it wasn't. None of my team out there today got any pass marks at all."

Hearts 1-0 ICT FC 20th Sep 2008

A single defensive lapse, on 8 mins, by Caley Jags was all that was needed to allow Hearts to pick up all three points and move to second place in the table. Salius Mikolunas managed to bypass the Caley Jags defence before rounding Michael Fraser to slot the ball home. Caley Jags had a better second half but ultimately were unable to get the better of the Hearts back four.

Craig Brewster felt we should have taken at least a point from the game: "... we did deserve something from the game and did well in spells but a lack of concentration for the goal cost us...  I think we are not getting on the end of things in the final third... maybe we aren't creating enough"

Csaba Laszlo, the Hearts' manager said: "You can't win every game 5-0 or 4-0, it is the most precious game if you win 1-0 and tactically it was very good..."

ICT FC 1-2 St Mirren 13th Sep 2008

Caley Jags took the lead just before half time. Adam Rooney scored from the spot, on 43 mins. The penalty was awarded when Garry Wood was brought down in the box by Franco Miranda. On 61 mins, the Buddies drew level after Billy Mehmet knocked the ball under Michael Fraser. They then took the lead when Stephen McGinn's cross was met by Garry Brady who blasted the ball high past Fraser to give the visitors their first win of the season.

Craig Brewster was disappointed with today's outcome: "... the first half was a poor spectacle from both sides and we got the bonus from a penalty... then we don't deal with a long ball through the middle and Billy Mehmet finished it well... the second goal we lose is really disappointing from our point of view... the games in the SPL today show that everybody is going to beat everybody so it's going to be a real difficult league this year."

ICT FC 1-1 Hibernian 23rd Aug 2008

Hibs scored their first goal at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium and shared today's points. Caley Jags were the more determined side during the first half. Their efforts were rewarded on 21 mins when Don Cowie's shot was deflected into the goal. Colin Nish leveled for Hibs at the start of the second half (46 mins). Caley Jags allowed Hibs to come more into the game during the second half and were unable to regain the lead.

After the match Craig Brewster said he was satisfied with the Caley Jags' first half performance, but went on: "We are a good passing side, but today, we simply didn't show it... we were so sloppy... but you have to credit Hibs, they're a good side, with good players up front."

ICT FC 5-0 Liverpool FC XI 18th Aug 2008

BARRY WILSON TESTIMONIAL

Barry Wilson's Testimonial match saw Caley Jags, past and present, play host to a Liverpool FC XI. Despite a number of chances in the first half the opening goal didn't come until 44 mins when Roy McBain's shot was deflected off Ronald Huth into the net. Caley Jags' lead doubled half a minute later when Mikel San Jose overhit a back pass into his own net for an own goal. The lead was further extended on 47 mins when Garry Wood netted from five yards. Rory McAllister headed home the fourth goal on 59 mins. Lionel Djebi-Zadi set up David Proctor for the final goal on 82 mins. Photographs are also included from the Caley Jags v Ross County legends match which took place at half time.

Reflecting on the night and the support from crowd, Barry Wilson said: "It was phenomenal... I knew that ticket sales had gone well and to see so many people there on the night was fantastic. I couldn't have asked for any more from the Inverness public... They have been great to me all my career and once again they were fantastic against Liverpool. I really appreciated it."

ICT FC 0-1 Hamilton Academical 16th Aug 2008

Caley Jags had the opportunity to finish the day at the top of the table, but it was not to be. All three points went to Hamilton when they scored at the end of the first half. Richard Offiong managed to get by Jamie Duff, and went on to pass the ball beyond Michael Fraser.

Craig Brewster recognised that Caley Jags lost this game through lack of effort: "... our play was pedestrian, and you'll never win like that... we need to be better than that at home... everything about us was done at just a jog."

Hamilton manager Billy Reid was understandably pleased with his side's win: "We are just taking it a game at a time and to start the season with six points out of six, I can't ask for anymore than that."

Aberdeen 0-2 ICT FC 9th Aug 2008

The opening day of the season saw Caley Jags away to Aberdeen, a team they had not beaten despite 17 previous encounters. Today was different however. Caley Jags took the lead on 27 mins when Ross Tokely's cross to Andrew Barrowman was fired past Jamie Langfield. On 90 mins Dougie Imrie fed the ball through to Roy McBain who marked his 300th club appearance with Caley Jags' second of the day. At this point Aberdeen would normally respond with two quick sucker punches. Caley Jags managed to hang on and took all three points from the season's opener.

Craig Brewster was pleased with the overall team performance: "I thought team spirit and teamwork won us the game today... we competed really well and looked dangerous on the break.

Jimmy Calderwood was understandably disappointed with the Dons' performance: "Our passion let us down, there were too many good players that didn't play well today... all credit to Inverness, they defended really well... they made it very difficult for us and we didn't have the form to break them down."

Only 4 mins later the Saints struck again when Milne blasted the ball past Esson from 22 yards. Caley Jags scored again during extra time when Rory McAllister tapped home from a Zander Sutherland cross.

Craig Brewster said that he was pleased with the performance and added: "... we started the game brightly and played some really good football...  it was a wonderful strike by Don Cowie for the first goal... today was a good test for us... on the whole I have to be pleased with the overall performance... there were some good phases of play with some excellent goals."

ICT FC 2-3 Ross County 15th Jul 2008

Caley Jags and Ross County met to honour coach driver Tony Fraser in a pre-season friendly at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium, the winner taking the Tony Fraser Memorial Trophy. Richie Hart opened the scoring for County on 11 mins when his well placed shot from 25 yards beat Michael Fraser. Caley Jags failed to draw even on 24 mins when Barry Wilson missed a penalty. However, Caley Jags equalised early in the second half when new signing Andy Barrowman scored in 59 mins. They then went ahead 8 mins later when Iain Vigurs blasted past Tony Bullock from 22 yards. Martin Scott beat the offside trap to level for County on 70 mins. County went on to win the match when David Winters beat Fraser at the back post from a Sean Higgins free kick on 90 mins.

A disappointed Craig Brewster said: "Obviously we would prefer to win every game and we are disappointed we didn't tonight...  a bit of slackness cost us at the end..."
