Season 2007-2008

"... great energy and enthusiasm... "

ICT FC 0-1 Rangers 20th January 2008

Caley Jags were unlucky not to share the points after the season’s second meeting at home to Rangers. After a strong defensive display, which contained the Rangers threat, a high ball in the 89th minute was not cleared and was prodded home by Jean-Claude Darcheville.

Craig Brewster was pleased with the overall performace of the team: "The players should take a lot of credit from the performance... we showed great energy and enthusiasm and if we keep playing like that we will cause teams problems."

Walter Smith was pleased to go away with a difficult three points: "Inverness have not lost at home for a long time, so that was a really good result for us... any team that comes here will have to work hard because Inverness have such a good determination about them... teams in Scotland don't always get the credit for the good football they play and how well organised they are."

"... we never caved in..."

Rangers 2-0 ICT FC 3rd November 2007

Another disastrous start, as Caley Jags give away a goal after only 34 seconds. Stuart McCaffrey pulled down Nacho Novo just inside the Caley Jags’ half. A quick free-kick resulted in Novo feeding Kris Boyd who slotted home from 18 yards. Rangers second goal came on 62 minutes, when Jean-Claude Darcheville fed Carlos Cuellar who headed home from 6 yards. Graham Bayne, Grant Munro and Russell Duncan all had opportunities but were unable to convert them into goals. Michael Fraser also made a number of saves which ensured a respectable score against a team who next play Barcelona.

Craig Brewster had no complaints with the team's performance against strong opposition: "... I think my players handled it quite well and showed good character after going a goal down in 30 seconds...  We were disciplined and organised and that made sure we never caved in, we got to grips with the game and did ok.  You know that Rangers are always going to have more possession and more chances but you still have got to try and do well when you have the ball and I thought we did that today."

Walter Smith was pleased to pick up the three points: "... I am pleased with the result, which was the main thing for us... we started the game well and got an early goal, but after that we were fairly flat... we didn't reach the levels of some recent games and that is fairly understandable, although not an excuse, considering the number of games we have had recently.

"There was no passion..."

ICT FC 0-3 Rangers 4th August 2007

The new SPL season started at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium with a 12:30 kick-off and a visit from Rangers. Two goals from Barry Ferguson on 16 and 90 minutes and one from Nacho Novo on 64 minutes ensured an easy win for Rangers and a drop to the bottom of the table for Caley Jags.

Graham Bayne had caused Rangers plenty of problems last season, but due to an injury he was not available today. Charlie Christie said: "... what it showed is just how important Graham Bayne is to us... there was no passion and not the requisite desire to win... make no mistake, there will be changes next week."

Rangers manager Walter Smith said: "We have had some difficult games here, so I'm obviously delighted to win this one... It was a good performance by us in difficult, very windy conditions."

Season 2006-2007

"It's incredible ... "

Rangers 1-1 ICT FC 31st March 2007

Rangers started very strong and put early pressure on the Caley Jags. After only 14 mins Caley Jags' captain Darren Dods was sent off after impeding Kris Boyd when he was through on goal. Rangers' Charlie Adam scored the opening goal from the resulting free-kick. Caley Jags managed to get to half time without letting Rangers increase the goal count. The second half then saw ten men Caley Jags take more control of the game. A deserved equalizer was scored by Craig Dargo on 82 mins. This followed a flick on from Graham Bayne who received the ball from Richard Hastings.

Charlie Christie was pleased with this seasons results against Rangers, "It's incredible to think that we are unbeaten in three games against Rangers this season, we played a lot better in the previous two games but we were down to ten men today. I think to show that strength of character here was amazing given the double blow of losing a man and a goal from the resulting free kick."

Rangers manager Walter Smith commented on the Caley Jags performance after the match,"Sometimes teams can struggle against ten men but credit to Inverness because their back four and goalkeeper were solid and played well."

"It was a tremendous night...  "

ICT FC 2-1 Rangers 27th December 2006

For the second time this season Caley Jags found themselves taking three points from Rangers. Nacho Novo was first to score, from a penalty on 22 minutes. This followed Barry Ferguson being downed in the box after Roy McBain got too close to him. On 41 minutes Darren Dods leveled the score when he blasted the ball into the roof of the net when the Rangers' defence failed to clear their area. Caley Jags persistence paid off in the first minute of extra time after 90 minutes when John Rankin scored from 25 yards.

Ecstatic Manager Charlie Christie said, "It was a tremendous night as it is well documented that we have been on a bad run... We matched them toe-to-toe and we got a tremendous goal at the end to win it, so I'm delighted."Paul Le Guen reflected on his players' mental attitude, "I think it is a state of mind, we must be prepared to fight for every game... There was not as much commitment as there was in the win against Aberdeen at the weekend and that is very disappointing for us."

"... I regard the result today as our best since coming into the SPL."

Rangers 0-1 ICT FC 14th October 2006

Caley Jags achieved their first victory over Rangers since entering the SPL, and they managed it at Ibrox, in front of a crowd of over 49000. Again, the Dargo-Bayne pairing paid dividends. On 71 minutes Craig Dargo blasted a shot from 20 yards. Rangers goalkeeper Lionel Letizi, who will not be this month's SPL Player of the Month, failed to keep hold of the ball. Caley Jags striker Graham Bayne was on hand to knock it into the net.

Delighted Caley Jags manager Charlie Christie said: "... Graham Bayne has done so well to react to the spilled shot and we dug our heels in. The goal gave us something to fight for and hold onto and we did that, in what was a tremendous defensive performance and like I already said a huge result for the Club..." Meanwhile Ranger manager Le Guen said: "... It's a bad result... It's a bad performance and I have the feeling we could have played for three hours without scoring a goal. That's why I'm very disappointed."
