ICT FC 1-0 Dundee 1st May 2010

It was party time at Tulloch Caledonian Stadium as the Caley Jags celebrated their league championship and return to the SPL. The day started early with pre-match entertainment, then there was the 1-0 defeat of Dundee, followed by the award presentations and fireworks. The day just got better and better. Prior to kick off the Highland Marchers did a lap of honour with Terry Butcher. They then, along with the Dundee team, lined up to clap the champions onto the pitch. Caley Jags wanted to extend their winning streak and not surprisingly it was Adam Rooney who scored the only goal of the match on 28 mins. Rooney went on to set up Eric Odhiambo for two golden opportunities, both went wide... but it did not matter! Championees! Championees! Well done all, and all the best in the SPL next season.

Manager Terry Butcher: “... It's the proudest moment of my career, let alone as a player. I played for England, I played in World Cups and all this sort of thing, but when you're responsible for a club, coming back from where we were last year, it's just incredible."

Ayr United 0-7 ICT FC 24th April 2010

A large travelling support went to Somerset Park to celebrate the mid-week confirmation of the league title win by Caley Jags. The team were also in celebratory mood and marked the occasion with a decisive 7-0 defeat of Ayr United. Caley Jags' first came after only 90 secs when Johnny Hayes stuck home after the ball rebounded from Ayr keeper Craig Samson. The second came when Richie Foran's cross on 10 mins was met by Adam Rooney who headed past Samson inside the six-yard box. The next came on 13 mins. This time it was a Hayes cross that was headed home by Foran. On 42 mins Hayes managed to cut the ball back to Eric Odhiambo who had no trouble scoring from close range. It was to be seven goals from seven different team members. It was Danny Sanchez who was next to score with a near-post header from a Hayes corner on 75 mins. Then it was Robert Eagle on 85 mins with a 15 yard drive. Finally Gavin Morrison added his name to the list of scorers on 89 mins when he netted from a free-kick from the edge of the 18-yard box.

Manager Terry Butcher: “..We've been getting better and better with each game and I felt sorry for Ayr but we just couldn't let up because it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the league and also because we'd planned a right good weekend on the back of this. I wish I could bottle this feeling and keep it. It's the chairman's birthday but it's like all our Christmases have come at once."

"The whole squad has been magnificent."

ICT FC 2-0 Dunfermline 17th April 2010

So near, yet still so near! Caley Jags move to within a cat's whisker of sealing the league title. Today's win means only Dundee can match Caley Jags on points come the end of the season, but they need to overturn the 18 goal difference to come out ahead. Although Caley Jags came out on top today it was Dunfermline who first got the ball in the net. They did this twice in the first 26 mins. However, the first time they scored Steven MacDougall was judged to be offside. The second followed a deliberate hand ball which resulted in a yellow card for Nick Phinn. Half time was reached with a clean sheet for both sides. It was only 10 mins into the second half when a long ball from Ross Tokely was met by Adan Rooney, who lobbed it home from 20 yards for his 25th of the season. This was followed on 62 mins with a goal from Richie Foran.

Manager Terry Butcher: “We're not there yet, even though we have a better goal difference by 18 and I see it going to Saturday, down at Ayr... but it's something to look forward to... The whole squad has been magnificent. There were gaps in the squad before because it was new and people didn't know each other... but, the more the season has worn on, the more that unity has grown and grown. There's a unity and a respect for each other, which wasn't there at the start of the season, and everybody has played their part."

"... there is nothing better... "

Queen of the South 1-3 ICT FC 10th April 2010

Caley Jags stay on track for SPL promotion by picking up three points at Palmerston. However, it was Queens who were first to score with the opening goal coming on 10 mins. Rocco Quinn's pass was met by Willie McLaren who finished with a near post shot past Ryan Esson. It was on 42 mins that Caley Jags managed to draw level. Richie Foran's cross from the by-line was met by Adam Rooney who tapped it home from within the six-yard box. It was another Richie Foran cross, this time on 67 mins, that led to Caley Jags' second goal. The ball was met by the head of Grant Munro before being redirected into the Queens' net. Queens then went down to ten men when Bob Harris was given a red card for bringing down Jonny Hayes. The points were sealed on 88 mins when Foran again played in Rooney who then scored his second of the match.

Manager Terry Butcher: "This was not our best performance, but I always fancy us to score. Even after going behind I knew we had shown a lot of resilience in this campaign and I always felt we could grab a couple of goals... There is nothing better than a happy dressing room after a six-match winning run."

"... I feared the worst... "

ICT FC 4-3 Raith Rovers 3rd April 2010

Caley Jags required a last minute goal to secure all three points to keep their top of the table lead. Raith were first to score but Caley Jags fought back to bring it to 3-1. Unfortunately, the foot then came off the hosts' pedal and Raith managed to draw level before going down to ten men when Stephen Simmons was sent off on 88 mins. A period of sustained pressure resulted in a welcome last minute Caley Jags' goal to deny Raith a share of the points. Raith first scored on 12 mins when a Jamie Mole cross was picked up by Iain Williamson who slotted the ball low into the corner of the net. The Caley Jags' reply came on 29 mins when Richie Foran scored from 10 yards after being picked out by Adam Rooney. Then on 41 mins Foran repaid Rooney with a pass that allowed him to go on to send the ball under Raith keeper David McGurn. Caley Jags then felt they'd sealed the match, in the second half, on 56 mins after Eric Odhiambo picked up a Rooney pass. Odhiambo then got past McGurn to tap into the empty Raith net. However, a Gregory Tade header on 65 mins pulled one back for Raith. Mole then went on to get the equaliser on 74 mins. Both sides dug deep looking for the winner but it Foran's overhead kick 4 mins into added time that was the decider.

Manager Terry Butcher: “... I thought over the game we did OK. Having gone a goal down, I feared the worst because they looked a well organised team, Tade and Mole were causing us problems up front.  I thought we showed a lot of belief and a lot of bottle to get back in the game the way we did and get the lead at half time..."

"... a double whammy... "

ICT FC 3-0 Ross County 30th March 2010

Caley Jags go four points clear at the top of the table after their latest encounter with local rivals Ross County. The Staggies evening didn't go to their plan when after only 13 mins Alex Keddie was given his marching orders after a tackle on Richie Foran. Foran scored one minute later from the resulting free kick. Caley Jags followed this with two further goals in the first half. The first came on 16 mins from Eric Odhiambo who was set up by Jonny Hayes. Heyes went on to add the third himself, on 40 mins, with a 30 yd dash followed by a 20 yd strike. The second half saw opportunities fall to both sides but the score remained 3-0.

Manager Terry Butcher: “... We've got to keep everybody's feet on the ground now and make sure they don't get carried away because you can come unstuck... I'm not too sure if it was a red card, but it was a double whammy for us because Richie scored from the free-kick..."

ICT FC 4-0 Airdrie United 23rd March 2010

Caley Jags are now only one point behind league leaders Dundee after collecting three points following their encounter with Airdrie United. It was four goals for Caley Jags with no reply. Adam Rooney was first to have the ball in the net on 10 mins, after being set up by Richie Foran. Foran then went on to score the second himself, 14 mins later. There were no more goals before half time. With only 2 mins gone after play restarted Grant Munro scored from a Jonny Hayes corner. Finally on 83 mins Hayes scored the last of the match.

Manager Terry Butcher: “... It helped boost the goal difference but to be honest it was disappointing we did not score more goals. That is our third clean sheet in a row and the defence has done well. They have laid the foundations for us to continue to climb the table. We are creating chances and I will be happy to continue creating them. We are very dangerous going forward at the moment, allied with a strong foundation at the back."

Ross County 0-0 ICT FC 20th March 2010

Caley Jags move a point closer to Dundee at the top of the table after a no goal encounter at Victoria Park. The Staggies looked most likely to score in the first half, but luck was not on their side. A change in the Caley Jags formation in the second half allowed them to create attacking chances. However, a strike off the inside left post from 12 yards, by substitute Robert Eagle, was as close as Caley Jags came to scoring.

Manager Terry Butcher: “...Ross County had the majority of the pressure possibly. The back four had to defend well. Ryan only had one save to make and it was a crucial save and Robert Eagle had a great chance at the other end... Both sides have had one clear cut chance each and haven't taken it. It was a really, really hard fought match but we're happy with the point..."

ICT FC 1-0 Morton 13th March 2010

Caley Jags move to within three points of league leader Dundee after defeating Greenock Morton. A single Caley Jags' goal from Nick Ross was enough to decide the game. It came on 65 mins when Adam Rooney slipped the ball through allowing Ross to finish from six yards.

Manager Terry Butcher: “It was horrible really. Horrible to watch and very frustrating for the players because Morton strung nine men across the park and left one up and made it very difficult for us to break them down or allow us through them... In the end it was a good breakaway goal, which typifies us really this season. For Inverness one of the most wonderful sights you could see was the number 9, a local boy, hitting the winner from about six yards..."

ICT FC 3-1 Queen of the South 9th March 2010

Caley Jags gained three important points after beating fellow promotion hopefuls Queen of the South. Adam Rooney's hat trick, and favourable results elsewhere, ensured that Caley Jags finished the evening second spot in the table six points behind leader's Dundee. The opening goal came from Rooney, on 42mins, with a close range effort. In the second half, he doubled the lead on 52 mins, with a left foot shot from just inside the box. Queen's David Weatherspoon was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty. This resulted in them pulling back a goal on 61 mins. Caley Jags were later awarded a penalty which Rooney converted on 76 mins.

Manager Terry Butcher: “... We carry such a goal threat now, from everyone in the team not just Adam. It's great! Sometimes we're guilty of pushing too many men forward but the team seems to be growing in confidence more and more.,."

Dundee 2-2 ICT FC 6th March 2010

Caley Jags repeated their Alba Cup final script by going two goals up only to be pulled back level by Dundee. There were no goals in the first half but Caley Jags looked like they would go on to score. They did not disappoint with Ritchie Foran heading in the opener on 46 mins. They doubled their lead on 59 mins when Eric Odhiambo tapped in an Adam Rooney cross. Dundee fought back and Brian Kerr scored from a volley on 78 mins. They then went on to draw level on 84 mins when Gary Harkins' 25 yard shot was deflected past Ryan Esson off the Caley Jags' defence.

Manager Terry Butcher: “... I'm livid about any goal we concede, but particularly the manner of the two goals we did today. I don't know what it is. But if we want to go up to the SPL we have to show the correct passion and desire."

ICT FC 3-3 Ayr United 27th February 2010

Caley Jags managed to salvage a point from their encounter with Ayr United after going behind twice. Although dominating the game from the start they went behind after 25 mins when Andrew Aitken produced Ayr's opener. This was followed five minutes later when Mark Roberts doubled the lead. Caley Jags fought back and were rewarded on 45 mins with a Richie Foran goal. The pressure was maintained from the start of the second half and on 61 mins Jonny Hayes drew the sides level. Ayr struck back ten minutes later with a goal from Tam McManus. The lead was cut back again when Caley Jags equalised on 90 mins from an Adam Rooney penalty.

Manager Terry Butcher: “... from a defensive point of view it's been a shambles really. We've shot ourselves in the foot twice... I thought our chance had gone, I thought we'd blown it. In the end, we were just grateful to get the penalty... I thought we dominated the game, we made a lot of chances to score, we just haven't been ruthless enough. It's about people taking command and dealing with things and we didn't do that."

Caley Jags pulled level on 38 mins after Jonny Hayes blasted the ball past Partick keeper Jonny Tuffey. Adam Rooney failed to score from the spot on 68 mins. He made up for this on 89 mins, scoring from a second penalty.

Manager Terry Butcher: “... We are certainly making the chances but we still aren't ruthless enough when it comes to taking them. I think that's going be a thing that's going to hold us back from where we should be unless we get it sorted out quickly... It's three steps forward and one back as Caley Jags fail to build on their recent improved performance. The disappointing result saw them defeated for the second time this season by rival SPL hopefuls Ross County. The lack of points also saw them slump back into the lower half of the table. County went ahead on 18 mins after Scott Boyd headed home after Scott Morrison's free-kick rebounded out after striking the underside of the crossbar. County's second came just two minutes later. This time Michael Gardyne headed in from a Morrison cross. On 82 mins Adam Rooney's penalty was stopped by Michael McGovern. Rooney however pounced on the rebound to pull one back for the Caley Jags.

Caley Jags got the only goal of the match on 44 mins. Grant Munro's high ball into the box was met by Richie Foran and then fell to Robert Eagle. Manager Terry Butcher: "... It gives the players a lot of confidence to beat Ross County, win at home, keep a clean sheet, and give our fans something to cheer about at long last. Ross County Manager Derek Adams: "... When we let ourselves down it was our mistakes. They didn't really cut us open and the cross just before half-time was the difference between teams. Yet another poor home result sees Caley Jags fall to the bottom half of the table. Partick gained all three points through a first half performance which saw Caley Jags go into the half time break three goals down. An improved Caley Jags second half performance saw no more goals from the opposition and two home goals that just ensure a positive goal difference seven games into the season. Partick's Liam Buchanan's double on 38 and 39 mins was followed on 45 mins with a goal from Alan Archibald. Adam Rooney converted a penalty on 63 mins and Richie Foran headed home on 76 mins.

Manager Terry Butcher: “"...we were a shambles, total shambles!... quite rightly the crowd booed the players off at half-time... I'm so disappointed for our fans because they've turned up in numbers this season... bought more season tickets this season than last and yet we've got one point out of nine at home... we'll be in tomorrow...  I cannot give them time off after that performance."

Partick Thistle Manager Ian McCall: "... we had to withstand some tremendous pressure from Inverness in the last 15 minutes or so... there were few clear cut chances though... indeed between their penalty and the second goal they created virtually nothing... just as I was proud of my players today I was also proud of the Thistle supporters. I would like to thank them for making the trip today and providing us with such excellent support. It's something that myself, my coaching staff and the players very much appreciate."

ICT FC 4-0 Annan Athletic 1st August 2009

Manager Terry Butcher: “... Annan are a very well organised side... they frustrated us and we couldn't get our full-backs on the ball. In the end it was a case of getting more movement, getting little Dani on the ball in higher areas. The more the game went on, the more space there was.  A different match from last week but a much better performance..."

I thought he did very well and the crowd liked him as well... They looked good, we had a good shape to the team in the first half and Dundee United came out better in the second half... It was a great lesson and we had to chop and change our team a bit. It was a decent performance but I thought class told in the end..."

ICT FC 1-1 Montrose (5-3 pen) 25th July 2009

Lionel Djebi-Zadi scored the deciding penalty as Caley Jags scrape through this round of the Alba Challenge Cup against Third Division Montrose. After full time it was one goal each. Caley Thistle had taken the lead on 45 mins when Roy McBain's shot deflected off Sean Crighton into his own net. Montrose equalised on 87 mins when Ryan Esson was lobbed by Jordan Leyden. Extra time failed to produce a winner and Caley Jags found themselves in a penalty shoot-out.

Manager Terry Butcher: "... fair play to Montrose, they battled really well and had a good shape.  We pushed three up at the end and were very, very positive and adventurous but we just couldn't break them down.  That was through our sloppy play, poor finishing, poor crossing, all these kinds of things..."
