Scottish Womens' Football Division Plate Final
29th May 2005
Arthurlie LFC 6-3 Caley Thistle Ladies
Caley Thistle’s women failed to end their season with a silver lining when they lost the plate final to a very strong Arthurlie side in Rosyth last week end.
Despite a strong start where they could have scored a couple of times Caley Thistle were constantly caught out by the first division’s swift counter attacks up field and they found themselves 3-0 down after 30mins.
Leanne Calder reduced the deficit before Arthurlie scored either side of half time to lead 5-1. Calder netted her second before the Glasgow side again split the Highland sides defence wide open to score again. Nicola Ross headed a late consolation goal to make it 6-3 at the end.
Despite this defeat coach Sandy Corcoran remains upbeat, he said “ The purpose of the plate is to enable teams to play as many trialists as possible with a view to strengthening their respective teams for next season, this was certainly achieved with many new youngsters playing their part in taking the team to the final.” He added “The whole team are looking forward to the challenge that Division 1 will bring next season, the players have been fantastic this season and have been a credit to Caley Thistle both on and off the park” Sandy would like to thank the parents who helped with transport at the end of the season during the teams time of need.
